"I'll be home later. I promise." Keyeion kissed Jaimee's forehead while she slept. He went to his son's room and spoke to him in his sleep then left.
It was near five o'clock in the morning and Keyeion had to go to the conventional center for the recruitment. He didn't know what exactly he'll be doing. He was already trained and prepared but anything can happen.
He stopped at Wendy's to get breakfast then ate on the way while No Limit by Usher played throughout his car.
When he arrived, he gave the security the information and went to find a park. He was five minutes early so he threw away his trash after locking up the car, then walked down the pathway to the conventional center. He went inside and found a seat. Keyeion realized that there was alot of men of many colours sitting and having a conversation. He looked down at his fingers and smiled at the good job he'd done with taking the nails off.
"Welcome, to the Mitary Recruitment. You are here because of one reason. You were chosen. I am Lieutenant Murdock and today will be the day where your life will change for the better, or for the worst. The American military has had recruiters since the time of the colonies in the 1700s. Today there are thousands of recruiting stations across the United States, serving the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force."
"Recruits enter a binding contract of service, which for full-time personnel typically requires a minimum period of service of several years, with the exception of a short discharge window, near the beginning of their service, allowing them to leave the armed force as of right. Part-time military employment, known as reserve service, allows a recruit to maintain a civilian job while training under military discipline for a minimum number of days per year. So you can choose."
"After leaving the armed forces, for a fixed period which is between four and six years is normal in the US, for example, former recruits may remain liable for compulsory return to full-time military employment in order to train or deploy on operations." He continued.
"From the point of their enlistment/commissioning, personnel become subject to military law, which introduces offences not recognised by civilian courts, such as disobedience. Penalties range from a summary reprimand to imprisonment for several years following a court martial."
"Personnel may be posted to bases in their home country or overseas, according to operational need, and may be deployed from those bases on exercises or operations anywhere in the world."
"Perks of military service typically include adventurous training; subsidised accommodation, meals and travel; and a pension. Some armed forces also subsidise recruits' education before, during and/or after military service, subject to conditions such as an obligatory minimum period of formal military employment; examples are the St Jean military college in Canada, the Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College in the UK, and the GI Bill arrangements in the US."
"If you cannot agree with the terms of services, please see your way through that clear glass door now." He said and a few men got up and walk out.
"Good." He said as he watched them leave. "Any questions?"
Keyeion raised his hand. "What about those who have a wife and a child to take care of?" He ask and the men agreed with his question.
"Service members with a wife and a child are called military members and they get benefit you. Military spouses are eligible to receive up to $100,000 in life insurance coverage. Military members can elect to enroll their family members in this program for coverage of $10,000 to $100,000."
"Spouse and dependent coverage may not exceed the coverage held by the service member, and children are restricted to $10,000."
While the Lieutenant spoke about other stuff, Keyeion Sat and thought about the what if's and the how's. He thought about the great benefits Jaimee could get from him being in the army for so long. But the one thing that stuck on his mind, was how was he gonna tell her he's going to be in the army for seven years.
