Jermaine
We looked over at each other as we waited to collect our bags. Tess was on her phone and I smiled down at her. "Why you staring at me?" she mumbled.
"What? I ain't allowed to look at my woman?" I said with a smirk.
"Jeeeeez you so obsessed with me," she rolled her eyes and I smacked her ass.
"Aye, watch yourself now," I said in her ear. "I ain't one of your lil friends out here."
She rolled her eyes at me again, "I just rolled my eyes so hard they hurt." I shook my head laughing at her and noticed our bags and went over to grab them.
"What the fuck you got in here—we only good for a week..." I said as I passed her her suitcase.
"Looks on looks on looksssss," she said exaggeratedly flipping her hair over her shoulder and sticking her tongue out. "you gotta take my outfit pics for IG," she told me as she started wheeling her suitcase off.
"Shit, you could at least ask me what the fuck--?" I mumbled and we headed off. I was playing it cool—but I was lowkey nervous about meeting Tess' family. We grew up in two completely different worlds, she has two older brothers and her dad's a preacher. I just wanted to make a good impression that's all.
She looked back at me as I was walking behind her. "What you thinking?"
"Nothing—I'm just staring at that ass—" I chuckled and she shook her head at me. "who's meeting us by the way?" I mumbled.
"My brother, Damien..." she trailed off as she was back on her phone. "he's gonna take us straight to church though,"
I frowned, "Why would we go to church on a Tuesday?" I was tired as fuck, we just got off this damn plane.
"Because my dad's preaching his mid-week service, nobody misses church in my household." She said still looking down at her phone. I blinked at her but didn't say nothing.
"Is what I got on okay?" I looked down at my outfit, I had on a crewneck sweater and some jeans and Jordans.
"Yeah you good, it's midweek everyone just comes super casual..." she looked up at me and brought her lips to mine, "you look sexy,"
I smirked, deepening the kiss and started tonging her down in the airport and she pulled back, getting embarrassed. Shit I had to get as much in as I could before we were about to be in front of her whole family.
"What?" I mumbled, smirking at her.
"Since when we do the most like that in public?" she raised her eyebrow at me.
"My bad baby—you just look beautiful, and I'm not gonna get to be all up on you later... I mean unless you cool with sneaking off in church—"
"Aye don't do that," she smacked my chest and I laughed.
"I'm playing,"
Soon enough her brother, Damien showed up, he was her oldest brother, she had another who was just two years older than her named Trey. He came up and hugged Tess and I watched as she grinned hugely.
"Ayeeee sis," he picked her up and kissed her cheek before putting her back down.
"Wasgoood?" she smiled, as they pulled back from the hug. "This is Jay, baby, this is my brother Damien."
"What's goin on?" I gave him a head nod as he came in to dap me up.
"My man, wassup? Good to finally meet you man..." we made small talk as Tess just watched us. He took Tess' bag and we made our way over to the car. She went towards the passenger seat before Damien spoke.
"Tess get in the back, let us grown men have a conversation—"
"Damien you always wanna act like an asshole," she mumbled under her breath.
"WHATCHU SAY?" he challenged her and she sat in the back seat and didn't say nothing. She always told me Damien was basically like her second dad so she had a whole level of respect for him, so I was kinda nervous around him too.
While he drove they had some kinda gospel music playing in the back. Both of them were singing along kinda under their breath. I pulled out my phone and texted Tess.

DeliveredHer brother pulled up at this huge church and it looked stacked, the parking spaces were all full.
"Aight ima leave y'all here and go find a space to park—" he said as we got out the car. Tess and I headed towards the church and Tess reached for my hand and gave it a squeeze.
"Just be yourself baby, they'll love you," she smiled up at me. "just don't talk too much the auntie's in my church are nosy as hell they always tryna be in people's business."
We entered the church and her dad was preaching at the pulpit. We were handed a bulletin and she led me to a spot to sit.

Tess
As the sermon went on, I sat with Jermaine a couple rows away from my family. I could sense he was nervous and I knew what my family and church members were like so I just wanted him to feel comfortable. It was already a huge step that he even came out, I knew Jermaine hadn't stepped foot in a church in years.
As my dad spoke I looked up at him for a second and he was seriously engaged in what was going on.
He looked down at me and smirked and I took his hand again.
"How long these services last?" he whispered in my ear.
"Just an hour and a half... then everyone's coming down to my parent's house for dinner so you'll meet everyone—"
"Aight cool," he nodded before drawing his eyes back to my father.

After the service we were hanging out waiting to catch a ride home to my parent's house. My mom headed towards the pew we were seated in and hugged me, "Hey Tessie," she smiled.
"Hey mama," I kissed her cheek, "you look cute... I like this lil outfit you have on,"
"Thank you baby," she smiled before drawing her attention to Jermaine who had stood up to greet her. "It's great to finally meet you,"
"Likewise ma'am," he smiled and she pulled him in for a hug.
"Ooh and you tall too... tall dark and handsome alright now—"
I rolled my eyes at her, "mama please..."
"Aight let me go and tell my man how good his sermon was, find your brother and tell him to drive y'all home, its probably been a long day... and we'll get to know each other in a bit Jermaine—" she said to him before disappearing.
So, that was the easy part. My mom's super chill and very easy going. Jay meeting the rest of the family I don't know how that was gonna go.
