when you were younger, you were bullied

when you were younger, you were bullied. the constant teasing caused you to look for a way to release all of the anger inside of you; that's how you found wrestling.

usually being the only girl on the wrestling team, you still outshined many of the boys. being as tiny as you were, it shocked your opponents with how much strength you had. it was no different at hawkin's high school.

when you first joined as a freshmen, you immediately went to sign up to be on the wrestling team. most people laughed it off until you challenged the boys. after winning multiple challenges, they finally started taking you seriously and offered you a spot on varsity.

they called you "mighty mouse" and no one ever really questioned why a girl was on the wrestling team.

even though you were on varsity, you still didn't like hanging out with the more popular kids. you preferred solitude just as much as you did when you were a kid, but this time, you weren't teased about it. people understood how much you liked your space.

that was, until the new boy showed up.

billy hargrove— the blond-headed, handsome devil who had most of the girls swooning for him the moment he stepped out of his car.

however, you weren't like most girls. you found yourself attracted to billy but his ego turned you off.

as the weeks went by after his arrival, you found yourself making eye contact with him in the halls, in gym class, or around different places in town.

finally, one day in gym, he walked up to you.

"i'm billy," he said simply, not even looking at you.

you quirked an eyebrow at him, a smirk on your face; the boy's game was weak.

"i'm y/n," you said back just as simply.

he nodded before bringing his large hand up and cupping his chin. you both watched as people sprinted up and down the soccer field, waiting to be called in by the coach.

"do you want to hang out?" he asked, still not looking at you.

"depends, hargrove. are you ever going to look me in the eyes?" you asked, answering his question with a question of your own.

he smirked before turning towards you, his blue eyes connecting with yours. his eyelashes were unnaturally long as they stared unwavering at you, his tongue darting out and licking his dry lips.

you found yourself looking at him with the same look before slowly shaking your head 'yes.'

that night, you met him at the movies where you found about who would pay for what— from the movie tickets, to the popcorn, and to the photo booth. together, you had the best time.

over the next few weeks, you grew even closer to billy. his ego was still larger than ever, but seeing the other side of him made you stick around.

after two months of dating, he finally asked you to come home with him.

"am I meeting mommy and daddy hargrove?" you asked, humor dripping from your voice.

he chuckled softly but didn't answer. he simply shook his head 'no' as you got in the car.

pulling up to his house, you didn't notice max's skateboard anywhere outside.

"is max not home?" you questioned.

shaking his head 'no,' he took the keys out of the ignition. he gripped your hand before walking through the door, leading you straight into his bedroom.

pushing you up against the door, your eyes widened. this wasn't the first time you had ever made out but this wasn't what you expected when he invited you to his house.

he started kissing down your neck while you were lost in thought before you pushed his shoulders back. he grunted but pulled back, looking you in the eyes. the look he gave you wasn't like the first time you had met his gaze, no. this time, something was in his eyes that you never thought you would see from billy: fear.

"what's wrong?" you asked but as soon as your finished, the front door of the house slammed. his eyes widened, the look of fear becoming more prominent.

"fuck," he muttered, "they weren't supposed to be home tonight." you tilted you head at his words, confused.

then, a knock sounded at his door, making you look inquisitively at him.

he put his finger to his mouth, telling you to be quiet. then, he pushed you in the corner of the room where you were out of sight when he opened the door.

"where is max?" a man asked. you could see billy's jaw set into place, trying to erase the fear lurking inside of him.

when billy didn't answer, the man pushed him back against mirror, making it rattle. for the first time, you understood where the dark side of billy came from.

his father continued to bully him before you stepped out of the shadows. billy's eyes connected with yours, and you suddenly realized that the fear in his eyes wasn't for him— it was fear for you.

gently touching the man's shoulders, you waited patiently for him to turn around. billy's dad's face was red with anger and his fists were balled.

"who the hell are you?" he yelled, spit coming in contact with your face.

letting out a breath of disgust, you wiped your face off. looking at your right hand, you could clearly see where it was wet from his spit. balling up your fist, you brought it back and slammed it into his face.

"what the fuck," he groaned out as he fell to the floor clutching his bleeding nose. the woman at the door stood terrified, making you smirk.

you pushed billy's dad over with your foot, his back hitting the floor with a thud.

"i'm y/n and you're scum. it was nice to have met you, i hope i never do again," you said, putting your heeled shoe on his chest.

you looked up at billy to see him in shock at your actions. you took your foot off of the lowlife on the ground before backing away. billy's dad scurried off making you softly laugh. billy's mom followed after her bleeding husband making you shake your head.

suddenly, billy's arms were around you, pulling you right against him.

"i love you, y/n," he said, leaning away to look you in the eyes.

"i love you, too," you spoke, your eyes sparkling at the man in front of you. wiping the blood on your hand off on your black sweater, you turned back to him.

with a smirk, you added, "sorry i had to out-badass you tonight."

he smiled back before whispering in your ear, "you can out-badass me anytime if you look that sexy while doing it."
