Smiling, you held Dacre's hands as you walked down the streets of LA. This was Dacre's first time in the public scene since coming out a few weeks prior. After dating you for almost a year now, he had finally felt comfortable enough to release to the press who he truly loved. Being bisexual in today's day and age wasn't the biggest of deals, but it was always shocking to the public when someone so 'manly' came out. Dacre had opted for the classic twitter release, where he got so much support from other celebrities, like Colton Haynes.Bringing his hand up, you kissed it gently as he shot you a small smile. Everything was still new to him, and you wanted nothing more for him to take his time and figure out what he was comfortable with. You were pansexual but came out during freshmen year of high school, so being queer was nothing new to you. Over the years, you found out what you liked and what you didn't like and were determined to be by Dacre's side while he figured out the same things.
Walking the streets, you saw many same-sex couples as well, only making you smile wider. Even though high school wasn't decades ago, the culture was still completely different back then. While most people were accepting of you, slurs still somehow managed to trickle in.
"I love you," you whispered encouragingly to Dacre, in which the grip on your hand only became tighter.
"I love you," he said back after a few moments.
You could've never imagined meeting someone like Dacre growing up- someone who loved you for you, despite a lot of obstacles you were constantly working around. The two of you met at a downtown party and hit it off instantly. Dacre easily became one of your best friends before he mentioned how he thought he might not be straight. You talked it out with him, helping him find a way to describe himself. While labels weren't really important, they can help in the beginning to explain to others easily.
A flash caught your eye as you saw a large camera on your right, dragging you away from your thoughts.
"Shit," you muttered, holding onto him. Despite being together for a year, you never had to deal with paparazzi because no one really knew you existed. Everyone assumed you were the best friend, nothing more. Much like older tales of same-sex relationships- no one likes to admit the obvious even when the facts are right there. Like why would two women who never married and who lived together, want to be buried next to each other? Besties for life? Sure.
"Hey, it's okay," he said, this time his lips finding your hand.
"Dacre! Are you and Y/N dating?" the guy asked, drawing the attention of everyone around you. More flashes started to go off, making you insanely grateful for the sunglasses on your face.
"Yes," he said confidently, smiling his dazzling smile for the cameras around you. The flashes only intensified, making you realize just how good at handling these situations Dacre was. You had been in a few roles here and there, but nothing that ever put this much attention on you.
"A lot of people think you coming out is a publicity stunt to promote Stranger Things. What do you have to say about these rumors?" a guy asked, a TMZ lanyard hanging around his neck. You couldn't help but gasp at the accusations, which were wilder than you could have ever imagined. Who would think that?
Instead of answering, Dacre turned you to face him, cupped your face, before touching his lips to yours. They worked against yours softly, all of the love he felt for you flowing through to the point you could almost taste it on your tongue. Or maybe that was the watermelon gum he was chewing.
The crowd around you erupted in cheers, making you smile into the kiss. Pulling away, his blue eyes met yours, his cheeks flushed red. He then turned his attention to the TMZ guy who stared at the two of you, mouth slightly agape.
"I say those rumors are just that- rumors. I love Y/N," he said, looking right into the camera. His hand found yours again, tugging you away from the scene. As you passed, people patted both of your backs, all of them smiling towards you.
"You know you're amazing, right?" you asked as you both rounded the corner.
"I know," Dacre joked, his laugh contagious as you couldn't help but laugh with him. All those years of being called every name under the sun, you still couldn't imagine being with someone who would tell the world that he loved you and not feel even slightly ashamed.
"I really do love you," you said again, the pride and love overflowing in you, begging to be released.
"Ditto," he said, kissing your cheek.

Happy pride month! Kind of a short but sweet one here. I hope anyone who is struggling with who you are- whether that be who you like/love or if you feel as if you were born in the wrong body- I hope you know how amazing you are. I know somedays are easier than others, but you are truly awesome. It took me a long time to realize that being pan wasn't a sin, despite being cut off by most of my family. Loving someone isn't a wrong or dirty thing, and I hope no one ever makes you feel that way.
Keep your heads up, kings, queens, and royal highnesses because life is too short to worry about what others think. Love who you want but most importantly, try to love yourself.
Have a great pride month, everyone! x
