Britney's POV

"I've tried calling her seven times, Nick! She's not answering," I said, worriedly, "She just... she never came home!"

I felt tears streaming down my face. I had always tried to be the best mother I could be, since my own mom said I couldn't. I'd been proving her wrong, until now...

"Hey, it's okay," he said, putting his arm around me, "Maybe she's just with a friend and her phone died or something. We don't know for sure."

"That's the thing though! Not knowing is the worst feeling of all!" I said, practically yelling, "That's it. I'm about to call the cops."

That's when I heard the door burst open.

"I'm.. I'm home," a voice said and then there was a huge thud.

We both ran over to see what was going on.

I couldn't believe it. There was Caroline laying passed out on the floor.

"Oh my God, Caroline!" I screamed, "What is going on?"

"Huh... where am I?" she said, softly.
I helped her stand up.

"Oh... hey, mom," she said and laughed.

She smelled like liquor. My heart completely dropped. I didn't want her to end up like the girl I once was.

"Were... were you drinking?" I asked, my voice shaking.

"Maybe," she said, smiling.

"Caroline Nicole Carter! You should know better than this!" I yelled at her, "I thought I raised you better!"

"Well, you obviously didn't, you stupid wh*re! Maybe in your next life, you'll actually be ready when you start a family!" she screamed and slapped me in the face.

I was so shocked and didn't know what to do. My eyes were overflowing with tears. I ran into the bathroom and locked the door. I sat on the floor and starting crying.
Why was she so mean to me? She always used that as an excuse for everything and I was so tired of it. It really hurts when your own daughter calls you things like that.

I remember when the kids used to call me those things in high school. No one will ever understand how awful that year was for me. I had to drop out. I had no choice. I left everything behind because of it, but I could only blame myself for it.

"Let me in, Brit!" I heard Nick say, but I didn't say anything.

"Please, baby," he said, softly.

I eventually got up off the floor and opened the door.

"Where's Caroline?" I asked as he put his arms around me.

"I sent her to her room," he said and kissed my forehead, "Don't worry. I've got everything under control."

Somehow it was hard for me to believe that.

"Are you okay?" he asked, after a while.

"No," I said and started crying on his shoulder.

"Hey, don't cry," he said, "It'll be okay."

"I just... I just don't want her to end up like me," I sobbed.
