I was still mad at Adam for being so cruel. And I was hurt at the way Ethan yelled at me. I just wanted to be alone.
"Adam stop!" He kept going. "Stop the bike!" He finally pulled over in an empty street lit simply by a flickering street light. I climbed off the bike before he could turn to me.
"Emma what's wrong?" He sat on the bike facing me.
"I can get home from here thanks." I begin to walk down the street hoping to find my way home from here.
"Please stop. Look I'm sorry okay how many times do I have to say that I'm sorry?" I continued walking as he walked behind me. "If you won't let me take you home, at least call your aunt or something."
"She's not home." I mutter and continue my anger walk.
"Where is she?" He asks.
"Los Angeles." I short answer.
"You can't stay home alone come on." Before I can protest he picks me up and next thing I know I'm on his bike and he's speeding off causing me to hold him tight so I don't fall.
"Where are we going!?" Is he going to spend the night or something because I'm still mad at him.
He doesn't answer and about ten minutes later we reach the edge of the Joshua Tree national park and a giant two story house comes into view. It's unique shape and structure with vibrant oranges made it seem very modern. A black metal wall surrounded the entire thing. We slowed down and Adam reaches in his pocket taking out a remote opening the gates. We reach the garage where he finally stops and we both get off. I notice a hole in the wall and pieces of the concrete all over the floor. Wonder what happened there.
"Adam what the heck am I doing here?" I cross my arms.
"I wasn't about to let you be home alone." He says as if that's a reasonable excuse for why I'm not at MY house.
"So you bring me home with you in the middle of the night?"
"Yes, now come on." I follow him down a dirt path as he unlocks the back door and turns to me. "Let's try and keep it down okay?"
"Adam this is crazy." I whisper as we walk inside. "Just take me home, what will your family think? This is not how I want to meet them." I don't want them to think of me that way.
"Just calm down every one is asleep." Suddenly the lights are on lighting up the massive kitchen and there in the doorway from the kitchen to rest of the house, stood a lady with brown hair in a robe with her hands on her hips. Next to her a man with white hair and a beard, also in his robe.
"Just what do you think you're doing young man?" Said the woman. "Do you know what time it is?" She scolds.
I step around Adam so that they can see me. Now I'm really embarrassed. They look surprised. "I'm sorry we didn't mean to wake you." I smile sheepishly.
"You brought a friend home? And girl?" She smiles. I guess he's always been a loner. "Well this is a first."
"Grams please." Adam whines.
"Could you have thought of a worst time to bring a friend over?" The man finally spoke.
"Grandad. You guys it's not her fault. I was giving her a ride home but she would have stayed there alone so I thought she could stay here." He explains.
"Is that where you went in such a hurry? You can't just not come home from school and then when you get home, leave a hole in the garage and take off again! We were worried." She says.
"That was you?" I say referring to the hole I had seen in the concrete wall.
His grandparents look at each other as if they revealed something they shouldn't have.
