"You need to let go, Leigh." Hailey whispers as she unattached my arms from around her waist.
"I don't want to leave." I pout as Finn walks up. I run up to him while my mom keeps repeating that it's time to go.
"I am really gonna miss you." Finn holds me tighter.
"You promised me that you would visit." I remind him.
"I know what I promised and I intend to keep that promise, I swear it." Finn leans back so he can look into my eyes.
"Leigh, we really need to go," Mom speaks from somewhere behind me.
I can tell I'm not going to be able to keep the tears from flowing when I get into the car.
I hug Finn one last time before letting go, waving bye to all of the others, we had said our byes previously, and sitting in the front seat. "I'll text you all when I'm in the car."
I smile and wipe away the single tear that slid down my cheek before looking out the window and yelling, "I love you," and that's when Mom pulled out of the parking lot, and we left.
During the drive home, mom and I talked about my summer and all of my friends.
"And who was the boy with the curly hair?" She pokes my side and giggles. "You like him, don't you!"
"Yes, I do. His name's Finn, he lives near our cousins in Canada." I grin, explaining to mom that we're not dating and how he, along with the other Canadians, are gonna visit and we're all gonna hangout.
"Make sure you guys stay in touch." Mom watches me through the mirror, "He was a cutie."
"I have no intentions to forget him." I look to my phones background where there's a picture of me and Finn smiling by the bonfire.
We continued talking about the camp, what happened that day I wanted to leave, and all of the activities we did throughout the summer. "You're lucky, no school for another three weeks."
I don't know how I only just remembered that now."Good, I need to get my sleeping schedule back on track. Me and my friends were always the last to leave the bonfire every night." At least I get to go home and see my dogs. "By the way, thanks for forcing me to go to the camp, I really enjoyed every minute of it."
"It's good to experience things while you're young. If you don't, you will regret it when you're my age." Mom rubs my knee.
The rest of the car ride, me and Mom are jamming out to Maroon 5 or I'm sleeping. Once we finally get home, I unpack and lay on my bed and think about what I would be doing if I was at camp.
