Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
Juliet rolled over in her bed, flopping her face into the pillowcase and grumbling incoherent curses to the creator of alarm clocks. She sat up groggily, pulling the sheets off of her as she turned off the alarm, rubbing her eyes tiredly.
She grabbed her phone from her bedside table and trudged over to her bathroom door, turning on the light and blinking to adjust herself to the drastic change in lighting.
As she brushed her teeth lazily, a crystal jaguar cub, hers, unfortunately, hopped up onto the sink beside her, looking at the stream of water pouring out the sink. It pawed at it curiously, annoying the redhead to the point where she just shut the tap off. From surprise, the gem cub fell into the sink, smacking against the bottom of the porcelain bowl rather loudly with a splash. She looked at it in disappointment, and it gave what we could only assume to be the familiar equivalent of a shrug.
She gave a mix of a groan and a sigh, picking up the tiny jaguar and plopping it onto the bathroom floor. It slipped upon contact to the cold tiles, sliding around for a moment before regaining it's composure and bounding out of the bathroom.
She finished up what she was doing, wiping her face with a warm towel. She fixed her hair and searched her closet for some neat clothes; she was going out for brunch with some friends and wanted to look at least the slightest bit presentable.
After a good three minutes of searching, she gave up and grabbed a beige sweater that didn't reek of mothballs. She paired it with some denim jeans she saw folded in a drawer and headed out, prepared for mostly anything.
She locked the door as she left and opened up her phone, looking for the message with the cafe's address. She nearly closed the door on her familiar, who was looking angrily at her.
She ignored the small creature, looking down at her android as she made her way into an elevator, booping the 'Ground Floor' button.
She texted her friends on the way there, something along the lines of "give me half an hour i'm gonna stop to pet every dog i meet"
She stepped off the elevator and shimmied out of the building through a bustling crowd, straightening her sweater as she stepped out onto the pavement.
She speedwalked through the streets, her crystal familiar padding after her. Left and right she encountered plenty of Soulmates, some with fingers interlaced, others with arms around each others' waists. She even saw a few pairs meet for the first time. She sighed, slightly irked that these fateful romance shenanigans would follow her everywhere.
'Whelp,' She thought to herself. 'This is what you get for going outside.' She shrugged as she awaited for a stoplight to turn green. A small 'beep' noise and the sounds of footsteps nearby sign that it's on go. She walked down the crossroads, glancing at the timer for the pedestrian lane. Geez, was it just her, or was there less time to cross? The light was about to switch to red, and some cars were already impatiently honking at the people crossing, herself included.
She furrowed her eyebrows and looked at a car who was blowing his' horn at her, a grimace holding deathly promise on her face. The driver shrank into their seat, fear rising in them. She huffed, turning from them sassily and clicking her heels as she made her way to the other side of the road in some sort of celebration of a victory, albeit, but a victory nonetheless.
Too bad she was too busy wallowing in her victory to realize the light'd turned red.
Cars broke foward as if they were in a race to the end, and who ever'd fall behind would crumble to the darkness.
One extremely anxious driver whizzed past her, reminding her she was still on the road. She shrieked from surprise, looking left and right and bursting for the opposite pavement.
'Almost there, almost there, almost there,' She repeated in her head, tunnel visioned as she ran what felt like miles and miles as the whole world seemed to slow down. From the corner of her eye, she saw a car approaching quickly, the driver looking distracted with their phone.
Don't text and drive, kids.
Juliet shut her eyes, awaiting impact, but nothing happened, instead, she felt a quick rush of wind whipping past, warmth on her arms, and her heart beating loudly in her chest as adrenaline rushed through her veins.
A quiet "What the-" escaped her as she tried to calm herself down, staring at the road quietly in shock. Once her heart wasn't racing like a ferrari, she willed herself to look at her savior.
She wasn't one to say this about anyone, really, but they were pretty... pretty.
If it were any squealish girl bleached blonde hair in a neat sidesweep and a smile that would stun her, and blue eyes that seemed to hold galaxies. A navy blue bonnet was perched atop their head, quite lazily, may I add, as if it were a futile attempt to hide a bad hair day. They weren't wearing anything extraordinary, just
Normally girls would pass out or try to pounce at the mere sight of them, but she wasn't exactly one of those kinds of girls. Instead, she was pondering if they were an actor or blogger she'd seen somewhere, and whether or not she should ask for an autograph. Both of them were staring awkwardly at each other, them still having a tight grip on her arm.
After some time, she coughed anxiously, causing them to perk up and put her down on the sidewalk beside them, chuckling anxiously.
They were still goofily grinning at her, shoving their hands into the pocket of their light grey hoodie.
"Well, um, that was unprecidented." They said, hoping to break the ice with the person they just saved. She chuckled and shrugged, patting them on the back. "My name is Juliet Hargis, nice to meet you, and uh, thanks for saving my life... um..." She gestured for them to introduce themselves with one hand, the other extended for a handshake.
"Andie!" They chirped, shaking her hand cheerily. "Andie O'Brianne!" was added quickly afterwards. They glanced at her wrist, and didn't notice any star tattoos or flower sprouts.
"Oh! You got a crystal creature too?" Andie grinned. She furrowed her eyebrows and grimaced at the statement, before smiling dully, obviously not happy with the new topic. They seemed oblivious to it, though, looking around for her gemmy companion.
As they did, she couldn't help but notice their familiar sit by their feet.
One exactly like hers.
