Helpless Aromantic {Original Story}

Juliet was in a literal paradise for love.
And she hated it.

Ever since she was a kid, left and right, she always heard of all this 'romance' and 'fate' to the point where it got kind of annoying as she grew up.

As a child, she was actually quite hopeful and looked foward to meeting her soulmate. That was, until she realized she had two big issues with the so-called 'Flawless Soulmate System'.

The first, and most predominant problem was that romance... simply wasn't her thing.

Any emotions linked to romance, any crushes, butterflies in her stomach, or lighthearted helpless feelings were nonexistent.

Second was the matter of consent.

What if her partner was an asshole? Didn't respect her as a human being? Ignored her? If in some magical way she managed to love them, would they even care back?

Well, I mean, your tattoo glowed or magical flowers bloomed on your wrist, why bother caring about consent or the state of your relationship? The universe said it was meant to be!

To put it frankly, no matter how much she forced herself to, she just couldn't bring herself to love someone she didn't know just because "the universe said so."

Of course, because of this, she was looked down upon. Not bullied or abused, just- questioned.

"What's wrong with you?" The ginger girl would often hear as she walked through school halls. "Maybe you just, haven't met the right one," The school counselors would always tell her as they wondered what thoughts lay behind her hazel eyes.

"You're too young to decide," said her father as he pat the young lady on the head. "How'd you know if you haven't met him or her?" Replied her mother as she scolded her.

It was... disheartening, to say the least.

She often stayed in her room, refusing to come out to greet relatives since she knew they'd all have the same thoughts. She only ever befriended a handful of people, and even then some questioned her ideals on romance.

So, to her, paradise was quite the opposite of the word she'd use to describe the world she lived in.
