While waiting there with bated breath, she saw people arrive on the scene one by one - she knew them all. She had been a belieber all these years and had true knowledge of everything and everyone that even came close to Justin within a half a mile radius.
Scooter, Justin's manager arrived and saw Sarah from the corner of his eyes while talking to Fredo. Pattie and Ryan reached ten minutes later.
The feeling of terror and fear was evident on Pattie's face.
Sarah could not resist herself. She flung her arms around Pattie and let the tears come down again. Pattie's gentle hands patted her back assuring her that everything was going to be alright though she already had her own doubts. There was something in Pattie's caress that calmed her heart a bit but not wholly.
Fear and anxiety were running through her blood.
The quiet yet joyful moments that she and Justin spent together flashed before her eyes. She couldn't afford to lose him, she just couldn't.
There was some spark between them that always ignited when one was near the other.
Time passed...slower than she imagined. Every moment brought more fear and doubt but Pattie's arms around her shoulders were comforting.
After waiting for another hour, the ENGAGED sign above the door died out as the doctor came out and headed directly towards Scooter. He was standing right across from where Sarah and Pattie were sitting.
"Justin is out of danger but he needs a long time to recover. I mean it. No shows. No work. Just rest. He needs to stay out of the limelight for some time," the words from the doctor were kind of soothing but unpleasant at the same time.
Justin loved performing. He loves making music. He just can't keep himself from doing what he loves but he had to. He needed to.
All of them heaved a sigh of relief but Sarah's heart was still beating with fast - it was longing to see him.
Pattie suggested that she should go back to the hotel and get some rest but Sarah was determined to see Justin with her own eyes before she even moved an inch from there.
Minutes later, Justin was moved to a recovery room. It was 3 in the morning. It was still dark outside.
Sarah and Pattie were seated beside Ryan and Fredo on the bench outside Justin's room. Scooter advanced to talk to the doctors.
Her head on Pattie's shoulders, Sarah just replayed the long day right from the start. She glanced at her phone and went to her messages. There it was, the text from Justin from earlier today.
*Goodmorning babe. Can't wait for tonight. Love you - Justin.*
It seemed like ages since she received that text.
The doctor came up to them with Scooter and announced that Justin had gained consciousness. He also informed that they could go and meet Justin but only one person at a time.
They all decided Pattie should be the first one to go.
Pattie gave Sarah's hand a squeeze before standing up to go inside. Sarah could see Pattie had also been crying, she just didn't want to show. Just like her.
A nurse dressed in a pink dress escorted Pattie. She turned the knob - the door clicked. Pattie was out of sight now. She was inside.
Sarah's urge to meet Justin was irrestible. Burst into the room. Her subconscious added. She pushed it back and patiently waited for Pattie to come out.
Just as Sarah's stomach started to twitch and turn - she remembered she hadn't eaten anything since lunch. She must eat something before she passes out. But that could possibly wait, she thought.
Pattie came out after about 20 minutes and looked at Sarah with a smile that was both comforting and intriguing. "He wants to see you" she said as she rubbed Sarah's back motioning her to go in.
Sarah returned a smile with her weak trembling lips. She was guided by the same nurse as the one that took Pattie into Justin's room.
Her stomach lurched as she was just inches away from the door. The door clicked the same way it had before. Sarah politely asked the nurse if she could give them a minute alone. She agreed. Sarah sighed.
The door opened into a perfectly arranged room - it looked more like a hotel room sans the medical equipments. The bed was just a few feet away from her. She closed the door behind her.
There lay Justin, his head covered in blood-stained bandages, scratches on his arms, covered with a white sheet up to his chest and yet that ever wide bright smile was spread like sunshine on his face.
Sarah knew she couldn't cry in front of him. She returned a faint smile with her trembling lips trying to fight back her tears.
Her heart started to slow down as she walked towards the bed. Her eyes scanned Justin from head to toe. He was fine. He was breathing. Her Justin was alright, she believed.
She sat down beside him. He reached out for her hand, she held his tightly.
"Sorry, I couldn't make it to our first date," Justin's voice came out as a small feeble whisper.
Sarah knew talking louder would strain his already crumpled body. She drew herself closer to him. But before she could say anything he held out a small black box from beneath the sheets, the IV still clipped to his index finger.
"I wanted to give you this last night. Open it."
