THE NERD
I guess I have accepted my fate as Kim's right-hand buddy. Since he's the one who always has a plan, I get to be the one to execute it.
That genius guy Bas still got me confused as to why he suddenly got interested in joining this dreadful adventure of ours except of course because he heard the two of us talking in the men's room. He even threatened to tell on us if we don't let him join, so should we have said no?
No way.
Kim and I have worked so hard to evade and refute involvement in all cases that the Brothers of this all-boys Catholic school have thrown at us. We're not going to fold this time. We need to graduate so we can finally be free of all this being-good-boys stuff.
So... yes. We let Bas in. It's actually kind of interesting that he's joining the team since it'll be a good chance for us to know more about him and his reasons why he's willing to take the risk.
He agreed to meet us in the cafeteria this afternoon, and boy! Students are starting to stare at us when we entered because Kim and I never hang out here. First, we hate the food they serve here. Second, we always got more important things to do than eat our lunch.
However, Bas feels more comfortable talking with us in here, so we agreed. As far as I know, Bas is an essential part of this plan, so we don't want to piss him off.
We found him at the nerds table sitting alone with a food tray in front of him. This isn't exactly where the rejects of our time hang out, but I never imagined Kim and me being friends with the guys Bas spends time with. It looks like he has arranged for this table to be solely ours since he's alone now.
We took the seat across from him with my eyes roaming around as if looking for imminent danger while Kim's are all over Bas. Why do I feel like my best friend has this hidden intention for letting this nerd join our team?
"One question!" Kim blurted out as he sat.
Bas looked a little intimidated. Is he going to throw up?
"Yes?" he answered though.
"What's in it for you?" Kim's voice a little low and scary as if trying to frighten Bas on purpose.
I agree with his strategy. Bas needs to know who's in charge, and if he's just trying to get the two of us in trouble, he'd better know that he should be more scared of us. I bet he knew that already.
"Answer the man!" I added. Boy, this is fun.
"... I... Do I have to? I can pay you guys, just let me in." he said.
He only got us even more confused.
"We don't allow traitors in this group." Kim uttered with a smirk on his face, but his eyes show something different.
Bas froze. He kept looking at his pink milk on the table while squeezing his left hand with his right.
"Game over! You lose." I said pretending to leave.
"Wait! Listen to me first." He pleaded.
"I can explain, but you have to believe me."
"Better start now, but keep your voice down." Kim reminded him.
"It's because..."
"Bas!"
Somebody yelled. Kim and I turned to look at the guy who interrupted him.
"Are these guys bothering you?" the guy said as he walked towards our table.
"What? Oh no, no." he replied as he looked at him with eyes saying 'please go away, not now.'
