THE GRIFTER

I'm on the bed tossing and turning still trying to figure out the answer to Tae's question. When we started this plan, all I ever wanted was to get the SAT score needed to be able to enter CU. I know many of you are wondering why.

Here's the thing: my world revolves around Tammy.

Yes, she's my girlfriend. We met two years back and have been going out for more than a year now. She went to the all-girl Catholic school right in front of ours, and she was one of the best students in her batch.

We were perfect together. I could make her smile just by doing nothing, and she made me feel like I was the perfect boyfriend she could ever have. She was okay with me doing the stuff that I do, and it didn't matter to her whether my grades were not as good as hers. She accepted me as I was, and it made me feel important.

Here's another thing: she's one year older than me, so I felt left alone and empty when she went to college. Of course, there were lots of other girls around, but where can I find someone who can accept me the way I am?

She easily got into the school she wanted, Chulalongkorn University, and there's no question as to why or how. Since then, I have told myself that I would do everything just so I could enter the same school and be with her again. She told me she'd be waiting for me, and I held on to her words. That is the main reason why I need this plan to work.

I know she has a busy schedule, so I don't mind not seeing her often. She stays in the college dormitory, and I have met her roommate Sandy once or twice. I think I can take whatever it is when it comes to her. That's how much I love her.

Until the other day when I called her and a guy answered her phone. I still don't understand how that happened. Then I realized what if she has already changed her mind about me?

Buzz buzz

Thank goodness for the interruption. It's Kimmon.

"What's up?" I asked.

"You free? Let's talk."

"We're talking now, dude."

"No! I mean... Come here."

"You home?"

"Yeah. I'll wait for you."

"Pizza. Bye."

I got up and headed outside. I can get to his house on foot. Nights in Bangkok are a little chilly at this time of year. Taking a walk can be a good way to clear my head of all things Tammy, or maybe this is also a good chance to ask my buddy what he thinks about my case.

"Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Varodom." I greeted Kim's parents in the living room.

"Tee. Kim's in his room. Go ahead." his mom told me.

And so I did. On my way upstairs, I met D in the hallway. He gave me a nod and whispered,

"Trouble?"

"None at all." I replied.

I feel scared of him sometimes, but I can easily lie to his face.

I turned the door knob and pushed open Kim's door. I found him in front of his desk rummaging through a pile of sheets and folders in the front drawer.

"No pizza?" my voice disrupted him. He turned to look at me.

"Sit." was the only thing he said.

I threw myself on his bed. Man, that five-minute walk got me panting. Clearly, I need to start visiting the gym.

"My master, you summoned me?"
