Chapter One - Target Locked
*Two Weeks Earlier*
*Her P.O.V*
"Ring, ring, ring!" I awoke to the sound of my annoying alarm clock. Ugh, time to wake up. I groggily got up off of my warm and comfortable bed, only to be faced with freezing cold air. Damn! Hasn't anybody heard of heating before? I took a quick steamy shower and got dressed in a pair of tight black pants, a tight long sleeve black shirt, and black training boots. I pulled my brown hair up in a high ponytail and put a thick layer of eyeliner and mascara on around my eyes. It made my hazel eyes pop out even more than usual. Last, but not least, I put on my birthstone necklace, a topaz chandelier necklace, with four topaz stones attached to it. For the final touch, I put on a layer of clear lip gloss, and glanced at myself before I left my room. Not to brag or anything, but I looked fierce. With my high cheek bones and my fit body, I knew I was irresistible. I took a deep breath, and walked out of my room.
"Good morning, Gillian." Said Addison, my roommate. She was wearing the same thing as me, except her dirty blond hair was up in a bun and she didn't need any make-up to accentuate her light blue eyes. She also had a birthstone necklace, hers, an amethyst chandelier necklace with four amethyst stones attached to it. "Ready to go to class?" she asked. I nodded in reply as I grabbed an apple from the countertop and headed for the door.
Five minutes later, we arrived at Ms. Simone's combat class. You see, this wasn't any ordinary high school that a teenager would attend. This was a talent school. Remember the necklaces that Addison and I had on? Well, those are talent necklaces. The more stones you have attached to your necklace, the more talents you had. The highest number of stones you can achieve six, which means six talents. Nobody has ever reached seven. There are ten talents that a person can have.
-Remember (has an amazing memory)
- Scan (able to read minds)
- Control (able to control things using the mind)
-Heal (able to heal quickly)
-Shift (able to change into any person)
-Blend (able to blend into surroundings, become invisible)
-Fear (able to bring out a person's fear)
- Defend (master in martial arts)
-Skill (very intelligent/ clever)
The rarest talent of all is Deceive, for anybody to believe what the person says. Me, Addison, Connor, and Evan are the top of our grade, the most talented. The four of us are the only ones with four stones, the other students with three, two, or one. The only people with five stones are teachers. The headmaster has six, the rarest of all and only the most talented and skilled people can obtain six stones.
Halfway through battle class, we were called by the headmaster to train, only the talented four (a nickname for us). We would train every day, at the randomest times. The training sessions were built to help us improve and explore our talents. Addison's four talents are scan, heal, skill, and remember. Connor's are shift, blend, scan and skill. Evan's are control, fear, defend and shift. My talents are heal, blend, defend and control. Addison and Connor went to the skill station to practice their skill talent, while me and Evan went to the defend station.
There, we were greeted by Master Verday, his main skill was defend. We started with a little hand-to-hand combat, and Master Verday taught us some new techniques. Then we moved onto weapons, starting with knives.
I gave him a cocky grin as I pinned him down with my knife across his neck for the fourth time. "What's wrong Evan? Tired already?"
"Aurgh! We both know that you're better than me in defend, so can you not rub it in my face when you beat me?"
I could hear giggles coming from Addison and Connor. I smiled and looked at Evan, giving him a wink.
"Nope! It's too much fun!" I giggled along with Addison and Connor. Just then, a two talent came into the training room and told me to go see the head master, immediately. I got off Evan and shrugged, slipping my knife back into the side of my boots, and walked out of the room.
"Hello, Gillian. You can come in," said the headmaster as soon as I reached his office. I pushed open the heavy wooden door, and sat myself in one of the thick, plush armchairs set in front of his desk.
"You might be wondering why I called you here so suddenly, and no, don't worry, you're not in trouble." Oops, I forgot he had a Scan talent.
"Well, since you are of the top of the talented four, I have called you on for a mission. Now, this mission is unlike any mission you will encounter. It requires your talents, and it is very risky and dangerous." Intrigued, I leaned forwards in my chair, eager to hear about the mission.
"You have been chosen to steal Sebastian Leeward's talent necklace. Yes, Sebastian Leeward as in the top of the talented four at our rivaling school, Talent's Academy. He has made some very regretful decisions, and don't get me wrong, we do not normally perform tasks like this, but he is a threat to all of the talent students at our school and it is very important that you take his necklace."
"You must watch out, for he is very skilled and he possesses the same talents as you do. You will be transferred to a school nearby his workplace, where he works as a waiter. I will send a file of information to your dorm and you will be leaving tonight. There is no limit as to how long your mission can go on, but please retrieve his necklace as soon as you possibly can. Thank you, I leave you to pack your things, and bid farewell to your friends. Good evening."
I walked out of his office, dazed and confused as a thought suddenly hit me. I was going on a mission! A mission! Only the most talented people get called to go on a mission! And this was an important mission too! I have to-no, I will succeed in this mission, no matter what. Sebastian Leeward, you better watch
your back, because I'm coming to get you.
