I woke up to the sun's golden rays streaming through a crack in the dark blue curtains. Stretching, I sat up and looked around the room, memories of last night suddenly flooding my mind. I closed my eyes for a moment, resting in what little peace I had before I had to get up and deal with the necklace thieves.
After a moment's peace, I sighed and pushed myself off the bed. Looking around, I realized that the room was bare, except for the chair in the corner of the room and a mirror against the opposing wall. My shoulders slumped. I really didn't want to wear the skin-tight dress from last night. Then, an idea formed in my head. I used Control to pull down one of the dark blue drapes and I wrapped it around me, forming a long gown. Pinning it together with some safety pins I had used for my dress last night, I glanced at my reflection through the mirror. My hair was in a tangled heap on top of my head, and I attempted to run a hand through it to untangle it. A few minutes later, I had managed to get rid of the big knots in my hair, and it looked reasonably tidy, considering what happened last night. One last glance at my reflection in the mirror, and I walked out of the room.
As soon as I stepped foot out of the room, I was met with an aroma of fresh, buttermilk pancakes. Using Blend and keeping my mind as blank as I could, I tip-toed towards the kitchen. Andy was seated in one of the chairs on the table and Sebastian had his back turned towards me; he was facing the stove. The corner of my mouth upturned into a half smile, and I stopped Blend.
"Good morning," I greeted them with the half smile. Sebastian turned to look at me while Andy just sat there, staring at his newspaper, not even acknowledging my existence. I rolled my eyes and chose to ignore him, turning to Sebastian.
"Morning," he replied, turning back around to slide the pancakes of the pan and onto a plate. I glanced around the kitchen, taking in the atmosphere of this morning. It seemed to easy-going and both the guys were acting as if no one had died last night.
I hesitantly slipped into the seat across from Andy at the table. Having nothing to do but twiddle my thumbs, I poured myself a glass of water, using control. As soon as I had gotten the cup and it was floating to the sink, Andy slammed down his newspaper and glared at me. His movements were so sudden that it made me lose Control and the glass fell to the floor, smashing into little clear pieces. I froze in my seat, startled.
"I do not tolerate use of talents in my house!" boomed Andy, his glare as menacing as ever. My eyes widened and I nodded slowly, biting my bottom lip.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't know," I started to apologize, but I was cut off.
"I didn't know is not an excuse. Next time you should try asking people if you're allowed to use talents in their home," Andy huffed as he glared at me for one last second, to me it seemed like an eternity, and he stormed off out of the house, slamming the front door. I blinked, before turning around to meet Sebastian's gaze. Sebastian stared at me with the same look of curiosity and surprise, which mimicked my own.
"What's his problem?" I mumbled as I pushed myself off the chair. I numbly walked towards the sink and knelt down to collect the shattered glad pieces. Sebastian was leaning against the counter with his arms crossed in front. I could feel his eyes on me without even looking up to meet his gaze
"Ouch!" I cried, holding up my pointer finger. Blood was spilling out due to a cut from the glass. I pursed my lips together as I ran my finger under water from the sink.
"Here," said Sebastian as he threw me a Band-Aid. "Don't use Heal," I sighed and glumly nodded, wrapping the Band-Aid around my finger. I threw the wrapper in the garbage and knelt back down to pick up the rest of the glass pieces.
A few seconds later, I saw Sebastian's black loafers in front of me. Moments later, his face popped up in my view. He gave me a quick smile and started to help me pick up the glass pieces. I almost cut myself, startled by the fact that Sebastian was showing a sign of kindness, let alone helping me. I smiled to myself. He's cracking and I'm slowly getting through, I thought to myself, though my heart tugged at my thoughts. I suddenly felt a spark shoot up my arm. I gasped and quickly pulled my hand away, blinking furiously, snapping out of my trance. I glanced up and saw Sebastian smirking. He's such a smirking jerk, I thought. I gave him a questioning gaze until I realized my hand had accidentally bumped into his while I was lost in my own little world. I raised my eyebrows as I stood up to throw the shards away, Sebastian having already picked up the last piece.
"Okay, um, has Derek been taken care of?" I asked, not meeting Sebastian's eyes.
"Yes, and I presume you want to go to a nearby store and get some proper clothes?" he asked. "I know I do,"
I nodded in agreement and started heading towards the front door. Halfway there, I stopped, hesitating.
"Should you tell Andy?" I asked my voice quiet. Sebastian shook his head.
"He knows," he responded, pointing to his head. I briefly wondered if one could still Scan in anger, but I brushed the thought away.
"All right," I said as I followed Sebastian out the door.
