When I awoke the next morning Billy was gone. I folded the blanket he had slept with and let out a long sigh. I threw it in the wash and got ready or school. Steve was doing his hair in the bathroom while I brushed my teeth.
"By the way, I went down stairs to get a drink last night and I swear I heard someone crying. Are you okay?" He asked looking at me. "I swear if Justin tried anything with you again I'll knock his teeth in." Steve said and I put my hand on his shoulder.
"I'm fine Steve. I wasn't crying." I said and he nodded. I finished cleaning my teeth and Steve finished his hair. I ran into my room and threw on some clothes. I grabbed my bag and threw what I needed into it. The thought of Billy leaving my mind while I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge.
"Hey it's raining like really hard." Steve said and I looked to the window. I sighed and grabbed my jacket. We made a run for the car and I climbed in.
"It hasn't rained in ages." Steve said and I nodded.
"I missed it to be honest." I said and he just looked to the road, while we drove I looked at all the cars on the road, usually it was people walking but today it was just cars. Once we pulled into the school. We both jumped out and made a run for the school hair m. I looked over to Steve and he stood with a smile. His hair still looking amazing. I shook my head and he gave me a cocky grin. We sprinted to physics and burst through the door. Mr Wells stood with an unsatisfied look on his face.
"Nice of you both to join us. Take a seat." He said and we both nodded taking our seats. I took my usual seat next to Billy, he moved his leg and I sat down.

After school ended I went to meet Steve at his car but when I looked over and seen Billy sitting in his car alone I sighed.
"Hey, I'm gonna get a ride home from someone else. I'll be there in an hour or so." I said and hit my hand off the top of the car. Steve watched closely as I walked over to Billy's car and climbed in. He looked over at me like I had just broke into his house.m
"Hey when did you leave this morning?" I asked and he looked at me but didn't say anything. "Jesus Hargrove, I'm trying to be nice and you're just shoving it back in my face. Honestly fuck You." I said and opened the door.
"I left at 5." He said obviously pissed off. We sat in silence for a while till I finally said something.
"Why are we waiting outside the school?" I asked and he sighed.
"I don't know why you are. But I'm waiting for Max." He said and I looked at him.
"Max is at Lucas's." I said and he looked at me.
"What?" He asked and I nodded.
"Yeah they're having dinner or some shit." I said and he banged his hand of the steering wheel.
"That little shit." He said anger spilled across his face.
"Hey Billy. Calm down." I said and his grip loosened. He started the car and pulled out of the car park. Billy drove fast but I never realised how fast until now. I watched everything go past as if it was just a blurry mess. We drove up to the quarry and I sighed as he turned the engine off. He jumped out of the car and I got out after him. He stormed up to the edge and I felt my heart slowly begin to bear a bit faster.
"Billy." I said he didn't turn around. He just stood at the very edge of the long drop. My heart started to get faster as he took one more step forwards, the tops of his shoes now over the ledge.
"Billy!" I yelled. He still didn't turn. Suddenly I realised that Billy looked a lot skinnier in his once tights jeans, his shirt and jacket. His frame was a bit more slumped and he just looked tired. That's when it all clicked. The drunken nights away from home, coming to school with bruises but no story of a fight. The reason he waited every day for Max and if he didn't he'd come in with bruises. I grabbed his hand just as he went to take another step. I pulled him back and he fell into me. His angry face crumbled and tears ran down his face. I didn't know what to do but I held him. I held him close to my chest. He shakes as he cried. The reason Billy was constantly angry was because that's what he was brought up with, that's all he's seen from a young age. But now it's became to much. Once he calmed down a little bit. I pulled his up to his feet but he didn't look me in the eye. I grabbed his hand and pulled him into the car. I climbed into the drivers seat and started the car up. I pulled out of the quarry and then it all linked up. The reason Hopper was so soft on Billy was because he knew what his dad was doing to him. My heart sunk as I looked at Billy. Sadness in his eyes but no emotion on his face. I pulled into the drive of my house to see Steve's car. I looked at Billy and he looked at the house. I climbed out of the car and Billy made himself look a bit more presentable. I opened the door and I looked back to see that Billy was again wearing the face he always was. The cocky asshole.
"What is he doing here?" Steve asked and before I could say anything Billy wrapped his arm around my waist.
"You're sister finally let in Harrington." He said with a wink and Steve wore a confused and disgusted face. Billy pulled me upstairs and I gave Steve a small smile.
"Listen Harrington. You tell anyone about this. I'll get you." He said as he pushed me up against my closed door. I pushed him back with my hand on his chest.
"It's safe with me Hargrove." I said and plopped myself down on my bed.
