"Nothing"
You said there was nothing you wished to change about me
Nothing that could change the way you see me
Nothing that could change the way you loved me
But constantly,
You want to bring me joyConstantly,
You want to make me smile
Constantly,
You wish to give me your smile
"A smile will make you more beautiful"
"A smile will make you a joy to be around"
"A smile will change your perspective on the world"
"Just smile," you told me
But I won't
It is not who I am
It is not what I do
It is not how I see
You try to change me
I am not enough for you, without a smile across my face
I am not who you wish to have, without a grin from cheek to cheek
I am not what you thought I was, without a smirk changing how I work
It is not who I was or who I am
Nor will it be anyone you wish for me to be
It's the small things you see
The small things you change
The small things that will tear us apart
Then you too will see,
How hard it is to smile for me
