Chapter 13:
Lauren's POV-
Luckily, I got home without my parents noticing. I had kissed Harry goodnight and I promised to meet him outside of the gym before school Monday. I knew he was in trouble so I bothered not to talk about it on the car ride back to my place.
In the morning, though, it was different. I walked downstairs around 10:30 am. I didn't get much sleep because I couldn't get Harry out of my head. I fell asleep around 6:00. "Why are you home?" asked my mother as I sat down at the kitchen table. "What?" I was still a bit sleepy and wasn't fully focused. "You said that you were at Lindsey's last night. How come you're home?" she asked as she poured me a bowl of cereal. I forgot I told her that. I didn't want to tell her I was at a party so she wouldn't be worrying about me. "Oh yeah, well, Lindsey and I got into a fight" I said with a frown. It was better to tell the truth, well at least some of it, "So I left and came home." "Oh! She dropped you off then?" asked my mom a bit suspicious. I nodded, "Mhm." "Well, I was talking to her mom on the phone to ask her why you came home. Want to know what she said?" asked my mom.
I decided to play it dumb, "Yeah" I said with a nod as I grabbed a spoon and placed it in the cereal and sat down again to eat. "She said Lindsey went to a party and you never went there" said my mom. "What?" I asked her, I tried playing it dumb still. She nodded, "Yes, you weren't at that party were you?" she asked. I knew she knew I went. There was no use for lying now. I would just get into even more trouble. "I was" I said, looking down at my cereal. I knew my mom and I don't think she would be that upset, sure I told her the wrong thing but as long as I 'listened' to her, she would let it go easy. "So you lied?" she asked. I shook my head, "Not fully." I responded simply.
"Oh really? You just forgot to mention you weren't going to be at Lindsey's house and at some boy's house, right?" she asked. I shook my head again, "I actually went to Lindsey's and I was expecting to sleepover there but, well, we did get into a fight" I said. "And the party? You forgot to tell me?" she asked already knowing the answer. I decided to throw her a curve ball, "Oh I remembered it" I said. She looked at me shocked, "I just thought to leave that piece of information out" I added. She scoffed at me and shook her head. "Wow. Just wow. Go to your room" she said calmly. Perfect. I played it off nice. "But wait, my breakfast! I'm not finished" I said. Shit! That did it! Knowing my mom, she hates it if I or my brother talked back to her. "I DON"T CARE GO AND GIVE ME YOUR LAPTOP!" she yelled.
I sighed and decided it would be best not to argue with her. I went upstairs, grabbed my laptop and went down to give it to her. As I got into the kitchen, she had already dumped out my bowl of cereal and was washing it. "Here" I said handing it to her. "Just place it by all your brother's electronics" she said flicking her head to a counter with a phone, an iPod, a Nintendo DS3, a Nintendo DS, the PlayStation 4, and Xbox 1. "What did he do?" I asked. "Phone and iPod was for not cleaning his room, Nintendo DS3 was because I heard him call you a bitch, and the rest because he just kept going to those and not caring." she said. I gasped at what she said he called me. I couldn't believe it.
I figured out my mom could careless about the party, surprisingly, and I came out of my room and sat on the sofa with a can of soda and watched T.V. "So how was the party?" asked my mom. She actually sounded interested. "What?" I asked a bit confused. "Well?" she asked urging me on. "Was there beer?" she asked cautiously. I nodded. The next thing I needed to do was lie and her find out, again. Then I would be in huge trouble. "There was?! You didn't have any right?" she asked. "Of course not! I'm allergic, mother! You think I would know!" I said playfully. "Well that's good!" she said, "Anything else happen?" she asked. I then went on to telling her about the whole night even the allergic reaction to the spilled beer, the Harry make out, and Harry taking me home.
As I finished my story, just as if was supposed to happen at that time, Lindsey called me. "Can I answer her mom?" I asked. She nodded and I went up to my room and answered, "Hello?" I asked through the phone. I know we were just in a fight but I hoped she called to apologize. "It's Lindsey" she said stubbornly. I was wrong. "Yeah?" I asked. "I'm outside your house with stuff that is yours. If we aren't going to be friends, then I have no use for it. Get my stuff from your house and you can give it to me" she demanded. I couldn't even say anything else, I hung up the phone and threw it on the bed and grabbed a box from the top of my closet. I started hastily grabbing her junk and shoving it in the box, tears falling down.
I was mumbling to myself about how I'm glad we aren't even friends any more and how rude she is and how I hate her. Then a horn honked, it was her. After putting the last few things into the box, my mom came into my room. "Lauren! Are you ok?" she asked. I nodded. "You know who's here?" she asked me. I nodded again. "What is she doing?" she asked. "Wanting all her shit back!" I said through tears. "Sorry" I apologized for my language towards my mom. She shook her head, "It's ok, I understand" she said. "Could you leave please?" I asked. I didn't need her to be here. She sighed and nodded, leaving me with a box of memories. I went to my mirror and looked at myself, red eyes. I quickly put on make up and a fancy shirt and basically made myself look like I was doing fine on my own. "Mom! I'm going out!" I called to her. "With Lindsey!?" she asked excitedly. "No" I called back and grabbed the box and went outside to the front.
Lindsey stepped out of her car with a box of my stuff. "Took you long enough! And what the hell are you wearing?!" she asked. "Clothes. People wear them. You might not be familiar with the concept of wearing them, not throwing them off for every boy you meet" I spat. I knew she didn't like that comment, but I was doing better on my own. "Excuse you!" she said, still shocked, "Anyways, why did it take you so fucking long?" she asked. "I'm going out with Harry, my boyfriend. So I needed to get ready and look-" I looked her up and down, "Presentable" I added. "Really? Seemed like he was in a lot of trouble. You know, I heard that he wasn't allowed out of his house or any-" "I don't need a story. I'm his girlfriend and I don't need you to talk for him. We were just on the phone and he said he wanted to go out so, sucks to suck huh?" I said with a smirk, "Just give me my stuff!" I said. She grunted and handed me the box.
"Thanks" I said sarcastically. She nodded, "And mine?" she asked about to pick up the box behind me on the floor, "Oh let me get that" I offered. "Thanks!" she said excitedly. "Oops!" I said sarcastically spilling her stuff all over the lawn. "Lauren!" she cried. "My bad!" I said dropping the rest of the box on the floor and grabbing mine. "Toodles!" I added before going into the house and putting the box in my room.
As I came back out, she was still picking up her things, "You know, you could help, right" she said when she saw me. "I could" I said not even looking at her.
