*Driving away from the bar*

I look back in the back seat to see that Daniel woke up. I see his with his hand clutching his eye.

Y/N- "I'm so sorry Daniel. Are you okay?"

D- "Oh um yeah yeah I'm fine. It wasn't your fault."

Dad- "You're right it was mine and I am so sorry."

I haven't looked at my dad since we got in the car. I couldn't stand to see his face.

D- "No it wasn't yours either. You were in pain because of your wife. It's fine I understand. I'm glad you did it to me rather than someone else."

Dad- "I don't care if I was in pain. I shouldn't have hit you, let alone anyone. I am so so sorry. If there is anything I can do I will do it without question."

D- "Seriously, Mr. y/l/n, it's fine. I'm okay."

Silence swept the car once again. I glance over at my dad who had a sincere regretful look on his face. His fingers intertwined and his thumbs rolling around each other. Eventually, he breaks the silence.

Dad- "And, Daniel, those things I said about you... I didn't mean it. Any of it. You are exactly what y/n needs. I am sorry that those awful words came out of my mouth."

D- "It's okay I know you didn't mean it."

Dad- "And y/n I am so sorry... you must be ashamed to have me as a father."

As I stop at the red light. I hear his words piercing my skin. I begin to feel a foggy film of tears cover my eyes. I blink to let them fall, but quickly wipe them away hoping no one saw them.

Y/N- "Dad..." I see his face lift up and look at me while his thumbs stopped twiddling. "I-I could never be ashamed of you..." I see the corners of his mouth turn up, but quickly go back to a frown as I finish my sentence, "I-I am ashamed of this person. This person isn't you. You are the best dad anyone could ask for. Loving, kind, caring, funny. But, this-this person who hits people. Who gets drunk when he is hurt. This is not you... this is not my dad. My dad is strong and doesn't need alcohol to solve his problems and stop his pain. Everyone has pain, everyone gets hurt, but you don't see everyone going out to a bar and grabbing drinks until they go home to scream at their kid and wife and not remember it happening in the morning," I watch as the bright traffic light flickers to green, but I stay put; not moving. The tears I had tried to hide start streaming out of my sleep deprived eyes and down my neck, "I say this now, but you probably had no idea that you did this. Yeah you do. You would come home from the bar and scream at mom and I. I would hide in the corner and cry in fear you would hurt me. No you never laid a hand on me, but I knew one day you would. And here we are... you punched Daniel. You are probably wondering why mom and I never told you. Well, it's because we wanted to hide it from you to prevent you from getting angry at yourself and going out just to get drunk more and scream at us more. So we sealed our lips in fear you would hurt us, or yourself. I am telling you all of this now because... because dad... you need help... YOU NEED TO GET HELP!!!!" I hit the steering wheel and cup my face as the tears poured out of my eyes. "P-please dad... you need help... I-I want the dad I love and the dad I am not ashamed of back... mom is gone. You don't think I know this? Well guess what I do! And no, we can't bring her back. But, you know what we can do? We can do what she wants us to do. I know for a fact she would want you to get help and I know she would want us to be strong. Dad, you don't need fucking alcohol to get you through this... I am here... I am right here to help you through this. I hope you're here for me too. So just stop being selfish and get help. We are all in pain you're not the only one! Look around! Everyone is hurting for some reason! Big or small... we are all hurting!"

I see tears streaming out of my dad's eyes while he looks down at his twiddling thumbs. I look back to see that Meg woke up. I see the astonished looks on Daniel's and Meg's faces.

Dad- "Y/N..."

Y/N- "No! You can talk to me once you get help!"

M- "What the hell just happened?"

Y/N- "Nothing don't worry about it."

The sound of a blaring horn coming from the car behind me startled me. I put my foot on the gas and speed home...
