IT HAD BEEN NEARLY A WEEK SINCE DELILAH'S ARRIVAL IN SMALL HEATH. After Thomas Shelby had left her on the Callaghan family's doorstep with a swarm of butterflies in her stomach and the promise to find the time to bring her to the stables soon she had been welcomed with open arms and an excitement that had her heart feeling warm by her cousin Orlaith.
Orla, as she had all but demanded to be called, was a pretty blonde girl just a year older than Delilah, with a smile that could light up any room.
Delilah learned quickly over the week that her green eyed cousin was a force to be reckoned with; mischievous beyond words with a quick wit and a free spirited way about her that reminded the auburn haired girl of the stories her father had described to her of Lillian in her younger years.
After hearing about her cousin's unfortunate run in with the deplorable Mr. Walsh, the older girl had nearly ran out of the house to hunt down the man to beat him senseless. The only way that Delilah had gotten Orla to calm down was by telling her that Thomas had swooped in and saved her before the man could do much more than scare her a bit. The blonde had laughed at the description of the mans face when Thomas had appeared behind her in the alley way.
"Tommy Shelby, Small Heath's very own knight in shining armor. Who would have known?" Orla had pretended to swoon, emerald eyes glistening in amusement at the thought as they sat and enjoyed a cup of tea.
They were thick as thieves in no time.
Delilah had also met the rest of her family that day; she had even done some rescuing of her own when Lillian came home with Liam and Declan, nearly dragging the poor boys into the kitchen to apologize for not meeting her at the station as they were supposed to.
"What have I told you about spending all your time at the Garrison?" she had scolded, looking up at the boys who had long since began to tower over her petite frame, somehow still managing to instill a lick of fear in them. "Arthur is a terrible influence and if he wasn't practically family I'd forbid you to see him."
"I'm the same age as Arthur, ma!" The oldest of her cousins protested, resembling a pouty toddler in that moment though he had just celebrated his twenty-second birthday. "We was in the middle of a game and some tossers started picking a fight 'cause we caught 'em cheatin'! We must've lost track of time is all. She made it 'ere, didn't she," Liam rolled his eyes as he nodded to the redhead's seated form and received a swift smack to his right cheek from Lillian; Orla had tried to hide her amusement in her teacup at the scene as the girls watched on from their seats at the table.
