SPRING GAVE WAY TO SUMMER IN THE WEEKS FOLLOWING TOMMY AND DELILAH'S KISS DOWN BY THE canal and the redhead couldn't help but think that the fair weather matched her mood in the most wonderful way as she flitted through the small flower shop she had recently found employment in.
Lillian had told her the shop owner, David Wick, had been in search of a helping hand after the passing of his wife the previous winter. Mr. Wick was a lively man with an easy smile and a silly humor that often had the girl in stitches. He regarded her in the way one might dote on a favorite granddaughter and in the short time she had worked there she had come to greatly enjoy his company.
The Garden of Eden, so named for his late wife, Eden Wick, was a quaint shop that was home to more flowers, plants, and herbs than the girl could have ever imagined.
She had come in early today, Mr. Wick leaving her in charge while went to London to visit his son, James, and his family. As she worked in the back tending to a few bouquet orders she heard the little bell above the front door sound, alerting her to a customers presence.
"I'll be with you in just a moment!" Delilah called out, setting down her pruning shears and wiping her hands on her apron.
Making her way into the heart of the shop, her face broke into a bright smile as she took notice of Sarah Shelby meandering through the rows of flowers.
"Mrs. Shelby," she delighted, catching the woman's attention, "how can I help you today?"
Sarah returned the redheads smile, walking closer to her, an alabaster hand coming to rest on the gentle swelling of her belly, "Hello, sweetheart," her voice sounded weary, somewhat distant, as she tried to infuse as much lightheartedness into her demeanor as possible, "the little darling is giving me trouble today, could you point me to the mint leaves and a bit of ginger?"
