Ch. 10

How could I start? Something to write with would have been a good first step, but I had to speak. I could not hold against the evident truth that lay in front of my eyes. No information presented and processed through my mind could be rejected.

I was on Earth, and no longer could go back to Asgard.

Why such a rash decision? Why such a quick conclusion? Well because it was true. I knew the smell of Asgard's golden walls and I knew how to contrast it from the sterile human hospital, or even hospital like room.

I'm not making sense am I? Should I talk about my eyes?

No that won't be understandable either.

How about the moment I woke up? I did wake up actually. I was no longer in the golden dome on the bifrost. Everyone was quite quick to guess that I had teleported, except this time I had a load of three people.

My burning life force should have burned right through my heart. I should have been dead before I could hear the tears and sobbing of those around me. Unconsciousness should have taken me will an iron grip, but the heavens would not except me past the gate. There was enough strength for me to live, just enough to breathe the fresh air, the sweet smell of the blossoming trees.

The bed below my back was stone. It was definitely from Asgard. A soul forge perhaps? Most likely. I could hear the technology humming as it was reviving my life force. No human technology touched me or monitored me in the slightest of ways.

This brought me to my next conclusion. Someone from Asgard had to be here to monitor me. The technology here would not be too hard to control by a human, but to understand what is presented is a totally different process.

So I lay there, waiting for enough life force to reconstruct so that I could open my eyes.

"Is she getting any better?" A familiar voice ran through my ears.

"Are you underestimating my skills and technology... again?" A woman this time. From Asgard of course. Her voice sounded strict and uninviting, but only when one interferes with her work.

"Will she wake soon?" The male voice asked again.

"I'm not sure. Let me see." I heard the nurse step over to me, at first she must have used the machine, but then her cold hands reached for my hands, my neck, and opened my eyelids. The light seeped through and I could feel the pain emanating from my eye. "Well Captain Rogers, she has awoken."

"Sunny." He rushed over to me quickly. "Oh my God Sunny. You are incredibly stubborn. How can you be alive? You are unbelievable."

Tears pricked at my eyes. I had no idea how I was alive either.

"Sunny?" Steve's voice lessened in excitement. "You said she was awake!" He almost yelled at the nurse.

"I said she was awake. I never said anything about being responsive there is a difference. She will 'fully awake' after her life force fully regenerates."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"It means, Captain Rogers, that every person is made of this life force. Our life force comes from our parents and is what keeps us alive until death. More powerful than your 'electricity' is many ways. This power is sacred for life, and must be left alone. Except on many other worlds this was no longer a major case for leaving the power alone. One of these worlds is Asgard, as you have probably noticed. Some were born with more life force than is good for them, but also means that they will die faster. The power of, let's say teleportation, burns up life force every time it is used. In this case, some must be burned up, but by the time enough is burned up, the person becomes attached to the power and sees benefits to using it more. That is until they have burned up too much. All this machine can do is take her remaining life force and stir it back into her system until her body believes that it is enough. She will have a full Asgardian life of course. Benefits to our technology over yours."
