Ch. 9
I woke up to feel my dads hand on the side of my face. "I have to go Sunshine. I will come back for you."
"Alright." I answered, still in a half awake, half dream mode.
He moved out of my vision and I could hear him scramble up on the rocks. He would just have to trek through the mountains and then up the palace hill and onto the bridge. Thor and Odin were already fighting there. Chitauri numbers were lowered by at least ten. I wasn't sure if that was a good or bad sign.
Right after he left, the heat that originated from my fingertips was closing more over me. I could feel it at the back of my neck and circling around my heart but not closing in on it as though it was waiting for its opportune moment.
"Loki... I'm scared." I whispered. I could feel tears forming at my eyes.
"If you weren't then you would be crazy insane." He answered calmly as he moved from his corner and closer to me.
"I don't... want to... die." I spoke frantically.
"You're not going to die."
"I'm going... burn up... die."
"Why are you burning up?" He asked as he reached one hand to my forehead and another to my own hand. For the moment his cold skin soothed my burning flesh, but only for the moment.
Loki grew confused for a moment, I could see it in his eyes. I watched as his hand turned blue. Again the extra cold soothed for only a moment, then burned once again. "Sunny? What happened?"
"I'll ask... same."
"You first."
"Don't know."
"I'm a frost giant." He spoke quickly.
"Cool." I suddenly answered.
"No Sunny. I'm evil, a monster. I was ready to kill you. I thought I did. I threw you off the flying machine for crying out loud. That was no mistake and that's what scares me the most."
"Nature... vs... Nurture. Just because... it's in nature... doesn't mean... you were raised... that way. You have... Thor, Odin... Frigga, me. Does that... not count... for some..." That was the longest I've talked. My lungs burned for the moment and I had to keep taking deeper gulps of air so that I would not suffocate.
"Enough about me. We need to find a way to make you better."
"Burning life force." I whispered more to myself than anything. "It makes sense!" I yelled out but immediately regretted it. The burning sensation reached down to my stomach and further up my neck. I closed my eyes for the moment. I was becoming weaker. No question about it.
"Sunny! Don't die! Not now! We have to kick some Chitauri butt first. We have to complete the day. We'll fix you. You can't die. You're too young." A tear formed on the corner of Loki's eye.
"Shh. Tired." I spoke calmly. Freaking out was my ideal way on going about this situation but I didn't need anyone else to know how I felt. "Loki. It'll be... alright."
"Of course it will Sunny. We will get through this. Thor can kill anything in his way. Those Chitauri are all as good as dead."
My dad made it to the bridge. His sword was steadily in hand as a few Chitauri branched off to attack him. His reflexes and theirs were matched. It took a while to even take down one. The trio were still horribly outnumbered.
At the last moment, I saw a few Chitauri climbing over the mountains, right at the mouth of the cave.
"Loki!" I shouted as a few Chitauri fired inside. Instantly, he pulled out a set of knifes and began to fight. I didn't want to watch, didn't want to see the mistakes I've made and those who I love fight because of them. Even if the mistakes were not all mine, not even fifty percent mine. Just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
