Sapphire looks around her as she enters a mansion – it is the Grendale mansion that’s been renovated into a rehab facility – its white-themed Victorian furniture, beige painted walls, and the light that freely enters through the wide glass windows becomes an eyesore to her, even the smell of mother nature is foul to her.

“Good morning Miss Patterson,” an old lady greets her as she strides her way to Sapphire.

Sapphire smirks then give her a nod.  The old lady wore a green long-sleeved dress and sported a short hair with white streaks. Her skin was translucent that Sapphire can see her blue veins under it.

“I’m Claudia, the caretaker of this house, and your new nanny ,” the senior says.

“I’m Sapphire, and how long will it take to prove that I am sober? And why did my father hire a nanny?” Sapphire asks rudely, hating the ambience and how nice the lady in front her is. She abhors things that are bright and lovely, she’s not a goth, but it’s no longer her thing since she lost a lot of things in her life, making her think that there is nothing good in this world that exists.

“It depends on your attitude, young lady, and trust me, you need me,” Claudia replies with a gentle smile, extracting a grimace on Sapphire’s face. “Come, this way, I’ll show you to your room, Doctor Reed will be here in an hour.” Claudia gestured to the hallway as the young addict peers over the old-fashioned hallway with colorful paintings hanging on the wall, there are also large vases full of fresh roses lying near the doors. Sapphire glances at Claudia. Claudia speaks softly, “Don’t be afraid of a little light, child.”

“I’m not a child,” Sapphire said rudely. She didn’t like the roses that occupied the hallway because it makes her remember her dear boyfriend, Nate. Nate gives her roses every time he pays a visit to her, he compares her with the roses and tells her how perfect they are in his eyes. She felt her heart break a little.

“Is it the flowers, dear? Your father said you love roses so we brought it here,” Claudia says as she noticed the girl in front of her seems horrified by the view of roses.

“When will you stop talking?” she asks, glaring at the elder beside her. “Leave me alone, I’m going to rot in here anyway.”

“As you wish,” Claudia nods, and leads Sapphire to her room. It is a good thing she has a long temper, she knows how to tolerate abhorrent people like Sapphire. The addicts she encounters entered this establishment with cold hearts, and she believes that young Sapphire will be better after the program.

When she enters the room, she shut the door behind her, leaving Claudia outside. “Just call me if you need me…” Claudia said.

“Bitch,” Sapphire mutters then throws her bag on the bed. Her room is not grand, but it has a large window that gives a great view of the lake and apple trees before it. She looks around only to find a white chair, a study table, empty shelves, a small closet, and a bed. She sighs and wonders what will happen in the next ninety days. She doesn’t have any idea what could happen in rehab, or how she will endure such torture by taking away her only pleasure in life. She lies on her bed, and felt an amazing feeling that soothed her back. It is nice to sleep in a comfy bed, than passing out on the floor, she thought. She falls asleep in comfort for the first time in months.

“Miss Patterson, Doctor Reed is here,” Claudia calls as she knocks on the door. “And it’s time for supper.”

Sapphire slowly rises from her bed, pissed because someone dared to interrupt her slumber. She forgot to change her clothes and freshen up a bit, but she decides not to. She opens the door, and said, “Enlighten me again, did my father hire you? And why?”

“Yes, Mr. Patterson hired me to look after you,” the old lady nods politely. “He is worried most of the time.”

Sapphire shrugs, “Whatever, where is the restroom? And where are the others? I haven’t seen them.”

“Your father said it would be better for you to be better to help you recover in private, with minimal contact with others.”

“What?” Sapphire didn’t understand, she expects that there will be other addicts recovering with her too – not that she wants those around, but it is what she saw on TV.

“You will still interact with them, but you are more of a VIP here, he secured your privacy and rented this area of the mansion so you will be alone when you wish,” Claudia explains and this brings smile on Sapphire’s lips. “But, you will interact with them on certain occasions.”             Sapphire’s smile transformed into a frown and she responds, “What occasion?”

“There are still activities that will require mingling with them, and it’s fun,” she smiles.

“Fun?” she repeats but she soon sensed that the old woman will utter another word. “Where is the bathroom?”

                “Across your door,” Claudia replies.

“Oh, okay, I’ll just see you later, you’re dismissed,” she smirks at Claudia, and walks to the bathroom door. She holds the door knob then the door opens because someone pulled it from the other side. It reveals a guy who just got out of shower, with a towel wrapped around his lean waist. Sapphire’s heart skips a beat seeing a tall almost naked guy in front of her. He stands at 6'2", dominating her with his height. His raven black hair is dripping wet, and she absent-mindedly watches a drop of water stream down to  his fine jaw line, his neck, his toned chest, and his chiseled abdomen with a six-pack (she counted) ‘til it was absorbed by the white towel draped around his waist. Damn, he kinda looks like Francisco Lachowski, she thought.

“You must be the new girl,” the young lad says then smiles at her. He has a deep voice just like Nate.

She bites her lower lip, and places a hand on her forehead. This is embarrassing, she thought “I’m so sorry, I didn’t know you were there,” she apologizes then takes a deep breath. His shower scent lingers in her nose, causing her cheeks to turn into a fine shade of red.

“I’m Paris Glendale,” he introduces himself, and then crosses his arms, “You’re Sapphire, right?”

“Yeah, um,” she places her hand on her side. Shit, do something you stupid bitch, don’t just stand there,  she berates herself for looking like a little piece of crap in front of him, she couldn’t say anything. Her throat feels dry, and she does not know what to do. She accidentally looked up at his blue eyes which were somehow identical to Nate’s.

“Oh, sorry, I’m so rude, I should be going, I’ll see you later?” he strides beside her.

“Uh y-yeah,” she stammers, looking away from him, then swiftly enters the bathroom, closing the door behind her.

I write drunk, and edit sober. I'm not drunk, I wrote this when I was a bit drowzy.

And again, pardon me for the inconsistency of tenses :)
