When I walked into Caroline's guest room both heads snapped towards me. John gave me a glare and Caroline just stared at me. I took a deep breath in. I walked in and bowed slightly.
"We need to inform you on the rules since you were not correctly told" John says sternly.
I nod my head. I was confused that they weren't punishing me yet.
"I am sorry," I say sincerely. I look over at Caroline and she just looks at me.
John pretends he didn't hear me and keeps talking in an irritated voice. "Here in this home you do not speak to the royals, look at the royals, or interact with them in any way unless asked to do so. Unlike humans, eye contact is offensive if done by humans or vampires that are unknown. You will not speak unless you are spoken too in this house. I should have told you that earlier, everything was just done so all of a sudden," he says. In a way he had realised that I was completely unaware of the rules in this society. Since I have only been here not even a week, I should have been given leniency, but humans are not respected here.
I nod my head. "I understand now."
He nods his head back. "Food is being served for the servants now if I am correct," he says.
Before I am about to go he speaks up again. "This will be you're only warning," he says looking at me coldly.
I nod my head and bow. I quickly walk out and hurry down the hallway. Everything is almost silent. I keep my head down the whole way. There is an occasional conversation among other vampires in the hallway, but other then that it is quiet. I open the door to a different room after others go in as well. I am taken aback by the sound of talking.
The room is smaller than the dining area for the royals but it is big enough to fit well over fifty servants. The walls are dark wood, and fancy candleholders sit all around the room. I look around for windows, but it is windowless. The kitchen area is at the back of the room, it seems this kitchen is connected to the main dining hall as well as this one.
When I start to walk in, the room gets a bit quieter and people start to stare. It makes me want to run out and hide, but I am too hungry to leave without food, so I endure it. I go to the line waiting for food near the left wall and stand there. Eventually the talking starts back up and I feel a little less uncomfortable. I look straightforward the whole duration until I get my food.
When I get my food I feel as if I am in school and I don't have a place to sit. I clutch my plate and move a bit forward towards the tables. Then suddenly the long brown haired girl gets up from her spot and moves towards me. I stop walking and wait for her to reach me.
"Come sit by us" she says leading me back towards her table.
She sits back down and people eagerly scoot over to give me room.
"My name is Maria," the long haired girl says. She looks at me with such kindness; it came as a surprise since I haven't seen something so genuine from a stranger in a long time. She has a sweet look to her face, as well as her all around appearance. Her eyes were brown and her skin was tan.
"Violet" I say.
The others look at me intently while they eat. I then realise how hungry I am and I start to dig in. I am not even sure what I am eating, but I am not one to have ever been picky.
"I have a question... why are the windows-"
"Blurry?" she interrupts. "We don't know... but that has been our main subject of conversation for months. I have never met a human who has seen the outside and live to tell us about it."
"They go outside in the yards everyday and people come in and out," A boy with messy brown hair says. "I am Brian by the way"
I nod my head at him.
