The next morning I was awoken by a knock on the door. I get up to open it and the man who had slapped me days ago stood there waiting. I tensed up at the sight of him as memories flooded back in. What was he doing here? I stood to the side and let him come in.
"Your name?" he asked looking around the room.
"Violet"
"Violet, I am sure you know that we had lost a servant the other day."
"Yes" I say through my teeth. He looks back at me quickly, noticing the change in my tone of voice.
"I am here to inform you that we had lost other vampires and servants the other day as well. From different causes."
"Why?" I ask curious.
"You do not ask questions," he says sternly. "All you need to know is that you will be taking the role as personal servant for a couple of days for the royals on this floor. Only to tend to their extra needs or errands. We are making sure that all the jobs are taken care of. These royals had two personal servants, they have their own that they brought along with them, you will just be an extra to check up on them. You do not need to clean, we have other servants that do that on a daily basis for these rooms."
I nod my head. I am afraid to speak again for I have already been scolded.
"You will only be attending to the guest royals. Their rooms are marked with their names." He then explains to me how to get to the rooms and which hallways to take. He then walks back over to the door to leave, and then he pauses. "You will refer to me by my name, Eric."
I stand there a bit overwhelmed by the task given. I agree to it and he leaves. I had no other choice. I couldn't imagine disagreeing. What could have possibly happened to where they have a shortage of vampires and servants to help out that they would need me, an extra servant? Does Caroline have two servants? I guess she has John to check up on her and be at her side.
When I was at breakfast I couldn't help thinking about how I was to approach the royals. What would they say to me or ask of me.
I shouldn't be afraid, as long as I do what they say I am fine.
When breakfast was over and we were done cleaning I went to Caroline's room and quickly made her bed and hung up her clothes from the laundry basket I brought up. When I was done with Caroline's room I went down the hallway Eric had told me to. I came up to the first door and read the name next to it. Lady Rose. I knocked on the door and it opened soon after. I poked my head in and looked around.
"I am the new temporary servant... Lady Rose," I say still looking around for her.
How did the door open? Nobody was here to open it.
"Temporary?" she asks coming through the door to a separate room in a long, pretty, flowing white dress that reminds me of springtime. Her hair was a beautiful red color and flowed long and wavy to her waist. I explain to her as much as I know and I ask her if she needs any assistance. She declines.
I bow and walk out the door to go to the next. I go to two more doors. Lord Michael and an older woman named Lady Florence. I got to the next door and it said Lord Isaac. I tensed up a little bit. I didn't really want to go through that door, but I knew I had too. I knocked on it, and there was no answer. I knocked on it again and it opened up. I bowed my head quickly before I caught sight of him.
"Yes?" he says before I am able to mutter a word.
"Lord Isaac, do you need anything?" my voice wavers a bit, but I pull my shoulders back a bit readjusting myself.
"Why are you asking?" he asks sternly.
"I am your temporary servant for a few days," I say.
"No" he says, as the door slams shut. I look up at the door and feel a wave of relief, but I also feel a bit embarrassed. He didn't want my service or really anything to do with me.
