Today was not actually the best so far. My mom kept teasing me about my date with Alex, no matter how many times I told her it was just a friendly outing. She works as a personal assistant, and she actually has her weekends off, so I get to spend time with her. We are currently in the kitchen making breakfast.
"Want to know a secret?" She asked me, her eyes twinkling with excitement.
Not to be rude or anything, but mom excited is never good news. "What is it this time?"
"Actually I'll let you guess." She clapped her hands, with a grin wider than I have ever seen.
My heart dropped in realization. She has never been excited like this before, which only brought me to one conclusion. "You have a boyfriend, don't you?" I asked softly, with heavy eyes filled with tears.
I watched as the grin she was portraying seconds ago slipped off her face, replaced with a frown. "What? No, we already talked about this Daisy. I told you if I ever get to like someone, you'll get to approve before they become something to me. Your opinion matters to me more than anything baby. I'm embarrassing myself again, ain't I?"
I love this woman so much. Even though I call myself the Queen of Awkwardness, she will always be the most awkward person I know. Amused by her ramblings, I busted out laughing and after a few seconds, she joined me too.
"I'm glad you are amused by me being all awkward and rambling," she said, trying to catch her breath.
I waited for me to catch my own breath before asking, "So what's the big secret?"
"Well.., a little birdie told me that someone has a crush." She wiggled her eyebrows with her lips curved in a creepy smirk.
"Really, who is it?" Now I was the one excited.
She busted out laughing before replying, "it's you silly."
"Motherrr," I whined, which only caused her to laugh more. Before we can continue our conversation, my phone chimed from the counter, signaling a text message, so I went to pick it up.
Claire👭: Party at six. I'm not taking no for an answer.
"No matter how many times I say no." I huffed not realizing that I said out loud until my mom asked, "Say no to what?"
"Claire is inviting me to a party. She already knows that I don't do parties though, so we should be fine." I shrugged, not really making a big deal out of it.
"I think you should go," said Mom.
"What? Mom, you know I can't."
She gave me a reassuring smile, putting both her hands on my shoulders. "Come on Daisy, you are a senior. After this year is over, you are going to regret ever wasting your highschool life. Everything that you could have experienced while you were still a teenager. Go out, have some fun. I'm not telling you to get wasted and do inappropriate things, just have a little bit of fun. You don't want to leave highschool as the ugly duckling nerd who never socialized now, do you?" She asked looking at me with her soft brown.
"I'm still the ugly duckling though." I sighed, already knowing that I can't back out this time.
"You are so beautiful Daisy, just like your dad." She smiled so softly and I know what that means. No matter how strong she makes herself appear, I know that she still misses Dad a lot.
"Now get up and let me work my magic. People need to see how beautiful you really are."
She got out the outfit that she gave to me as a gift four months ago, but I never got to wear it because it wasn't really my taste. White tight jeans with a cute flower brunch on the left thigh, a black top with red roses on each side of it and black vans with identical roses as the ones on the top. There was also a nice and comfy hoodie-like-sweater that she put in my bag, just in case it gets chilly, but what she didn't know was that, I'll be putting it on before I go anywhere near wherever the party is to be held. Thanks, Mom.
My friends came to pick me up, and their jaws dropped when they saw me. Their eyes literally popped out of their sockets and their mouths were wide open."Where did you learn to dress like that?" Sophie asked still shocked or rather awed by my appearance.
"We all know that our little Daisy can't dress herself, so I did myself an honor," mom said, looking at me with proud.
Both Claire and Sophie started squealing and jumping up and down while Mom and I chuckled because of how funny they looked.
"Thank you, Grace. I knew you were the one who persuaded her to go out." Claire said, as they both hugged her.
As they pulled away, Sophie excitedly told us to get going. They bid their goodbyes and I kissed mom on the cheek with a see you later.
"Have fun, but not too much fun." She shouted as we made our way to the car while smiling at us.
The moment the car stopped at the house where the party is held, Sophie and Claire jumped out of the car, dragging me along. At just a single glance, you can already tell that whoever was throwing the party must be loaded. From the outside, the house looks luxurious. It has been build with white bricks and has blue stone decorations. Tall large windows add the overall style of the house. Wow, just wow.
"So, whose party am I clashing?" I asked, curiosity getting the best of me.
Claire gave me a look that says 'girl! Are you living under a rock?' which I kinda was, so I just glared at her to answer my question.
"Jacobs'. The captain of the football team."
