Leyla's POV

It's Thursday, and that means payday! Well, for Xiana, at least. She changed her shifts for Ashton, obviously, but we'll split the money fifty-fifty. Sometimes we argue about it; she'll want 60% and leave me with 40%, which is totally unfair. She'll try to justify it, saying she needs the extra cash for stupid parties, dresses—anything in general. I need the money because I'm saving it for the future. I have five large jars of cash in my closet already. It's not a great hiding spot, I know.

"Do you need a ride to school or anything? I'm running late." Xiana's voice broke me from my thoughts. I looked at her.

"And when have you ever offered me a ride to school?"

She shrugged, and I raised an eyebrow. Never, in the history of the world, has she offered me a ride. We love each other, but sometimes we have the urge to kill each other.

I smirked, and she rolled her eyes. "Don't give me that look, Leyla. You should be glad I'm offering, even though my boss will probably kill me for it."

I laughed. "Then just go! I'll be fine. I'm used to walking, and that's a plus." I gestured to the door. She smiled, we said our goodbyes, and I was on my way.

A voice from behind me stopped me in my tracks. "I never knew I'd meet you again, Jase."

I smirked but didn't turn around. "I'm surprised you still exist, Alexandra. What brings you here?"

She walked up beside me, flipping her hair over her shoulder. She's a lot like me, but I hate that she's so much cleverer. She's only 14, at the peak of her pre-teen phase. I see myself in her, but the reflection is blurry, which is odd since I have a strong memory. I can even remember the second-longest word in the English language: "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." See?

"Well, Jase, for starters, I really didn't want to see you, but my idiotic brother forgot his wallet." She held up a black leather wallet.

I sighed. "He's Calum Hood. The things he forgets and the things he doesn't."

She looked at me, raising an eyebrow. "Which are?"

I turned to her. We were still walking, and we stared at each other.

"Girls," we said in unison, then laughed.

We talked for a few more minutes before we arrived at school. "Hmm," I said, rubbing my arms as if I was cold, even though I wasn't.

"What's wrong, Jase?" Alexandra asked, concerned.

I just shrugged. "I guess I'm not used to it."

"What do you mean?" she pressed. I was talking to myself, but I knew I had to explain.

She frowned. "I'm just not used to walking without Luke. It's only been a week, but when I'm with him, I get all cozy and comfortable." I admitted. She looked away.

I put a hand on her shoulder and hunched down to see her face. "Why so glum all of a sudden?"

She shook her head and playfully punched my side. "Nothing, you ass wipe. Now go get Calum. I've already missed my first class, and I'm going to have him eaten by wolves tonight when he gets home." She pouted. We really are similar.

"You get Calum. He's your brother, and I'm not your servant, so adios, amiga!" I ran off before she could strangle me. I expected her to follow me. When she doesn't get what she wants, you just have to run. I don't know why I'm so scared of getting killed by a young girl. Maybe she's a little intimidating, but I always win.

I looked back to check if she was following me. I didn't see where I was going and bumped into someone. "Oof!" I stumbled back and fell to the floor ungracefully.
