Leyla's POV
"You're going to be late for work. Get your butt out of here and go make some money because I don't want to starve to death!" I yelled.
Xiana stopped, giving me a look that could kill. She sat down, massaging her temples. "My boss knows, so don't worry about it. All I know is that Ashton is coming over, and I have no idea how to cook dinner..."
I raised an eyebrow. She looked confused, but I was just annoyed that she was going in circles while I was trying to eat. And she's still talking about Ashton, even though they just met yesterday. Crazy, I know. It's Wednesday, and I'm halfway to spending the whole day in my beloved bed.
"Well, I'm gonna get going now, and Luke is coming later, so—"
"Who's Luke?"
Shit, forgot to tell her. "He's a new friend of mine. I promise we'll help you with dinner! Bye, Xiana." I ran out of the house, letting out a huff of air. It's been a stressful couple of days, and it's only the third.
As I saw Luke, I turned around and continued to walk toward school.
"Hey, good morning!" he chirped beside me. I gave him a small smile in return.
We walked in comfortable silence. It wasn't awkward—just a peaceful moment with the sun rising on the horizon. Deep as shit, I know.
When we finally arrived, I realized Jaja was late again. She showed up 20 minutes later, hooking her arm in mine.
"Good morning, my fellow classmates. How are you today?" she grinned. I know that look. I raised an eyebrow, and she winked. Yup, I know what's going on.
I gave her a look that said, "I know what's going on here; spill it." Her eyes lit up with excitement.
"I'm going to the One Direction concert when they come here, and I'm in VIP!" she squealed, shaking me.
"I don't care what you said, and you're shaking me vigorously." I said nonchalantly. She stopped when my words sank in. Jaja rolled her eyes at me and turned to Luke.
"Now you, mate, are going to come with me and meet your precious Leyla's best girl friends." My mouth dropped open when she said "precious." She just winked at me.
I am not his precious. I did my piggy nose again and looked down.
"Uh, okay?" Luke replied, but it came out more like a question.
Jaja's ways are something else. She literally dragged him over to our hangout spot, a big tree, while I followed behind them.
"Faith and Jovi! Girls, come here." Jaja called out. I awkwardly played with the hem of my top. As they got closer, I scooted over to Luke, and he gave me a warm smile. I don't know why, but I felt like it was just the two of us, or maybe I'm a lunatic.
I heard Jovi clear her throat on purpose, and Luke and I looked away. "So basically, we're not on the best terms yet, but Leyla here has a... gentleman."
Smooth, Jaja, real smooth.
Faith smirked at me, and I rolled my eyes. Why do they always bully me? That's my job! If they humiliate me in front of Luke, they'll end up in a trash bin.
"Leyla," Jovi said. I turned to her. "We're really sorry about the other day. It was just an accident that I mentioned him, and maybe it was out of fatigue."
I raised an eyebrow at Faith.
"Also, we didn't talk to you yesterday because we know how you are with these kinds of things. You need time and space to calm down. I can't believe Jaja was brave enough to apologize immediately." I nodded in agreement. Jaja is kind of adventurous, and with that comes the pain.
Luke made a face that told me to accept their apology. "Alright, I forgive you. Now give me a hug, you dorks." I opened my arms wide, and I was immediately squashed by them.
Of course, just like in the movies, every special moment is ruined by one specific person.
"Hey! I want a hug too!" Suddenly, we were all on the ground.
"Calum, what are you doing!?"
"Yuck, boy cooties!"
"Ouch, what the hell?"
"CALUM, I WILL AMPUTATE YOU IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR FAT ASS OFF OF ME."
Obviously, my threat was the death threat. I was at the very bottom, Jovi was on top of me, then Jaja, Faith, and Calum himself. I searched for Luke, and he was watching us in amusement.
"Hey, Goldilocks! Mind helping us out?"
He nodded, chuckling. "Well, I got another nickname." He pulled Calum up by his shirt and the rest of us in a gentle way. Jaja was right; he's such a gentleman, but still a goofball to me.
"Guys, sorry about Calum. He might have had too much coffee," I said. They laughed, and Cal hid behind me.
The school bell rang, and we groaned. "This is it, I guess. See you in heaven!" I skipped into the building, and Luke followed me.
"We've got three subjects together: Biology, Algebra, and P.E.," he informed me. I just gave him a simple nod. Biology is my first subject, so he's with me.
My hands were dangling at my sides, and I felt Luke's left hand brush against mine. That tingling sensation again. Little by little, I moved closer to him as we walked. Wait, why am I doing this? My body was disobeying me, like it wasn't communicating with my brain. Luke noticed my constant movement and looked down at me.
"Are you alright?"
Oh no, don't worry about me. I'm just walking with you, until I let myself get so close to you and don't know why, I thought.
"Y-Yeah, I'm okay." I stuttered. Really, Leyla? I just stuttered and got nervous for no reason.
He smiled, and I couldn't explain what I was feeling right now.

(Lunch Time)
I entered the canteen and spotted six people at a round table in the middle of the room. They looked like the cast of Friends. I miss that show.
I approached the group and sat in my usual spot beside Jovi. Now Luke was on my right. "What happened to the 'never hang out with boys' routine, hmm?" I asked the girls suspiciously. They just gave me a sheepish smile.
"Well, we learned a lesson from our fight, and they're actually funny," Faith shrugged. I just rolled my eyes at her.
"Who's that?"
We turned to where Michael was pointing. It was a girl, Aleisha McDonald.
"That's Aleisha. She's been in this school for a while now, but she's pretty secluded. She has her own friends, though," Jaja explained, and I nodded in agreement. We know her, but not really, if that makes sense.
I took a bite of my sandwich and saw that Luke was staring at Aleisha. My heart suddenly beat so hard that I choked on my food. I quickly opened my water bottle and took a big gulp.
"Leyla, there is seriously something wrong with you! Earlier too!" I gasped in relief and shook my head at Faith. "Nah, I'm fine. Just worked up, I guess..." I snuck a peek at Luke from the corner of my eye and frowned. Not because he was still looking at Aleisha, but because he didn't even care that I almost died. Sounds dramatic.
Why am I feeling this way, anyway? Is it because... I'm infatuated?
