The morning you had to leave went like a blur. You remember your Father hugging you tightly, the thought of that made you slightly emotional. You also remember Legolas pulling your long plaited hair teasingly as you set off.
You had now left Rivendell and were all resting on a hill side. You watched Boromir teach Merry and Pippin how to sword fight with Aragorn sitting next to you. You make small conversation with him as you watch them practice.
"Good Merry!" Aragorn cried. "Pippin, Y/N could show you a thing or two" you blushed but laughed as the two hobbits began to attack Boromir playfully. You laughed at them as they shrieked.
"For the Shire!"
"Hold him! Hold him Merry!"
"He's got my arm!"
You get up to pull them away but they carry on.
"Come on, poor Boromir! I think that's enough!" you say laughing. But then you feel something. Something approaching.
"Something's coming!" you and Legolas shout at the same time. Everyone stands up as Sam points to something moving fast towards you all.
"Crebain from Dunland!" Legolas shouts.
"Hide!"
Before you know it, Legolas has grabbed you and pulled you into the opening of a boulder. You gasped as everyone is silent. His looks at you studying your eyes. You try not to catch his glance but you fail to do so as one of his hands accidentally touches your waist.
"Do not be afraid Y/N" he said calmly. You think he means about touching you but he then says. "I will not let anything harm you" and with that he swiftly got out of the opening and told everyone they had gone. Gandalf explained they were spies of Saruman and that we must take the Pass of Caradhras. You knew nothing of the pass but you dare not question Gandelf's judgement.

The climb up the mountain wasn't bad to begin with. You shared an entertaining conversation with Gimli who you then became great friends with. Legolas walked near but always ran ahead to keep an eye out for enemies.
As we clambered higher, the once was hard ground of mud became covered in snow and it also became colder. You were offered a cloak from Gimli but you refused as you did not want to see him suffer. You turned around to see the hobbits looking down at their huge feet deep in thought. At that moment, Frodo slipped and rolled down the hill to Aragorn's feet. He got up anxiously but felt around for the ring. You saw it in the snow but as you went to pick it up, Boromir snatched it from your reach.
"Boromir" Aragorn said.
"It is a strange fate we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing… Such a little thing." Boromir said hypnotised.
"Boromir! Give the Ring to Frodo." you said sharply. He snapped out of his thoughts and proceeded towards the small hobbit. You looked at Aragorn with a sigh of relief but you couldn't help notice the grip Aragorn had on the top of his sword. You turned and continued walking with Gimli but in silence.

Everyone continued to climb but as the snow got thicker and thicker, it became harder. You and Legolas skipped ahead avoiding parts but most of all listening out for any suspicion of Saruman. Like before, you began to feel something in your chest. A warning. Then you heard it:" Cuiva nwalca Carnirasse; nai yarvaxea rasselya!"
"What is it?" you gasped. But only so Legolas could hear you. He looked at you worried but then heard it himself.
"There is a fell voice on the air." He said to Gandalf.
"It's Saruman!" Gandalf cried as the first avalanche started to fall. All of a sudden, someone pushes you towards the mountainside to avoid it. Everyone follows as tons of snow fall beneath you. You gasped worried but feel someone grabbing your hand. Legolas.
After much arguing on the mountainside, you had had enough.
"We just have to choose which way to go!" you scream above the cries of the others. "Frodo you can choose Ring-Bearer." Everyone looks at you then him as he stutters.
"We will go through the mines."
"So be it." Gandalf responds before anyone else could. You look at the old man, you had known him since you were a child but never saw through his heart. You read him with great difficultly but it was plain to see that he did not want to go through the mines, no one did apart from Gimli.
