OHHO! We're getting close! If you're a Portal nut, you know what's gonna go down next!
But before I start, I would like to thank you all for 200 reads! Yes, it's still not a lot, but it's a lot for me! I hope I can just grow from now! But first I need to finish this book (duh) that you are now reading. Once again, THANK YOU!
As soon as you were out of the elevator, the women came on the intercom for another moment.
"Welcome to the final test!"
"When you are done, you will drop the Device in the equipment recovery annex."
"Enrichment Center regulations require both hands to be empty before any cake-bzzzssssssc-c-ca-a-a-a-a-ake-e-e-e-..."
The words faded out into nothingness.
You then turned to the chamber.
It looked wickedly simple.
All you had to do was bounce the orb off of a platform, and the Unstationary Scaffold would move you down the long hallway.
You didn't know what was down the hallway, but you could see a cake sign with an arrow pointing into the long path.
Is that the cake?
Just a few seconds after asking yourself that question, you hopped on the platform, and it began to carry you above the goo.
Then you realized that there was a wall that you would have to open at the right time.
You stepped off for an instant, quickly hitting the button and shooting a pair of portals.
Just like that, you were behind the wall.
A short trip later, you were now faced with shooting a portal right at the wall in front of you, shooting another one on the side, just out of reach.
You actually seemed to stand right in the portal for a few seconds while you waited for the platform to come to you.
You hopped on, and then it was all over.
In front of you, the hall darkened, and that cake with an arrow showed up again.
The lady came on.
"Congratulations! The test is now over."
As soon as she finished that, the scaffold turned, and you were suddenly facing fire.
You were literally looking right at an inferno.
The lift slowed to a crawl, and the A.I. continued.
"All Aperture technologies remain safely operational up to 4000 degrees Kelvin."
You could feel the heat as the speech continued.
"Rest assured that there is absolutely no chance of a dangerous equipment malfunction prior to your victory candescence."
"Thank you for participating in this Aperture Science computer-aided enrichment activity."
"Goodbye."
You were now just moments from meeting a long and blistering death.
But there was still hope.
You could see a portable panel away from the furnace.
One shot.
You glanced to your side, where you quickly shot a second portal.
Wasting no time, you jumped off of your perch and went through the portal.
You had just cheated death. Now you were going to escape.
You had to perform a fling maneuver to escape the area. Before you started, the A.I. came on, clearly distressed.
"What are you doing?"
"Stop it!"
"I...I...bzzzzz... We are pleased that you made it through the final challenge where we pretended we were going to murder you."
"We are very, very happy for your success."
"We are throwing a party in honor of your tremendous success."
You were already flying through the air as she continued.
"Place the device on the ground, and lie on your stomach with your arms at your sides."
You were running down the new path you had made, and you officially entered the bowels of Aperture Science.
You went up a flight of stairs, the A.I. still droning on about your surprise.
"A party associate will arrive shortly to collect you for your party."
You got to the top.
"Make no further attempt to leave the testing area."
"Assume the party escort submission position or you will miss the party."
You swung the door open.
The escape had begun.
