The elevator abruptly stopped, and the doors, yet again, swung open. (Author: I'm sensing a pattern of repetition here...) You walked out, and you saw a window in front of you. You peeked into the room, and saw a strange device rotating on a pedestal, sounding with a loud noise then placing a blue portal at different places in the square.
Will I get that?
You turned and saw that the door was sealed tight. You wondered if it was broken, and if the lady could fix it. Before you tried anything, though, she came on again, her monotone voice echoing through the hallway.
"You're doing very well!"
"Please be advised that a noticeable taste of blood is not part of any test protocol but is an unintended side effect of the Aperture Science Material Emancipation Grill, which may, in semi- rare cases, emancipate dental fillings, crowns, tooth enamel, and teeth."
You didn't taste any blood, and everything in your mouth seemed in their places. The door opened, and you walked down the small flight of stairs. You saw the chamberlock door in the corner, but there was no way to get to the platform. You saw a small square in the middle of the left wall. You peeked in just to see the strange device aim its barrel right at you.
You ducked out of the way just fast enough to see a small bluish orb go flying by. It pinged on the wall behind you, making a resounding warping noise. You walked through, and sure enough, right in front of you, was the device. You walked over and picked it up. The pedestal gave a hiss, then disappeared into the floor.
"Very good! You are now in possession of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device."
You assumed that that was the item you held in your hands.
I now have a portal device.
The lady continued.
"With it, you can create your own portals."
As you popped a portal up to the higher platform to get to the chamberlock, the robot went on a lecture of what to not do with the Device.
"These intra-dimensional gates have proven to be completely safe."
"The Device, however, has not."
"Do not touch the operational end of The Device."
"Do not look directly at the operational end of The Device."
"Do not submerge The Device in liquid, even partially."
You had gotten to the chamberlock by the time she was done.
Wow. So many rules.
"Most importantly, under no circumstances should you-"
The voice warbled and fizzled, and slowed to a stop a moment later.
Slightly cautious of "The Device", you walked into the elevator, reminding yourself to not misuse "The Device" like the lady told you to.
This portal device seems fine to me.
Or is it?
