Okay, what in Hades' name is SHIELD? It could literally stand for anything, and we wouldn't know what it stood for. Percy looked just as confused but, then again, didn't he always? Annabeth had that look she always had when she was thinking about something, and Death Boy looked as bored as he always does. The Fates must be laughing at us and our stupidity right now and I bet the gods are too. Hera most definitely. I got up and went to the window, watching the scarce birds that braved the Manhattan skies flying about. I heard Nico come up behind me.
"What do you think?" Should we trust this 'Phil Coulson'?" He asked softly, so as not to disturb the other inhabitants of the house. I thought about it for a minute.
"What if it's just a trick? It could be an organization that could lead us to our deaths." I answered. He smiled slightly.
"With what I've learned about you, Thalia, I doubt you'd go down without at least a scuffle or a full-blown fight." He mumbled softly. I knew he liked someone from the Demeter cabin.
"How's Jessie?" I teased. A faint blush painted his cheeks.
"She-she's fine. Why do you ask, Pinecone?"
"Aww. You like Jessica, don't you?"
"Shut up." He growled, his cheeks red with embarrassment. We jumped at a knock at the door and we peeked out as Percy opened it, Riptide in hand. A balding man in a suit was on the other side, looking at Riptide as if swords being leveled in his face was a daily occurrence for him. Two brunettes in their early to mid-twenties stood with him, one in jeans and a t-shirt, the other in a button up, jeans, and a sweater with her hair pulled back into a ponytail.
"Mr. Jackson, we've come to explain what your mission is, should you accept, so if you could please lower your sword, that would be great." He said, introducing him and his friends. "I'm Phil Coulson and the girls with me are on my team. Jemma Simmons is our biochemist and Daisy is our hacker."
Percy lowered his sword as Nico, Annie, and I came up to flank him. Coulson blinked, but shook it off and slowly entered the house, the girls following him. I closed the door as they sat down on the couch. We faced them menacingly.
"What does SHIELD even stand for?" Percy finally asked, confusion lacing his words.
"The Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division. We protect the world from the truth it's not ready to hear or keep them safe from the supernatural which, these days, seems to be both." Coulson explained.
"Why do you want us? We're just teens about to graduate high school and, in Nico and my case, go into our junior year." I asked.
"Because we know who you are. Percy has a lengthy file back on the Bus, as well as you and Annabeth here. Nico's is much thinner, but has a lot more interesting stuff." Coulson answred gently. "I know you're not ready for another war so soon after the last one, but if you can't help us, war is what we'll get."
"What's going on?" Annie asked.
"A friend of Percy's mom, Tony Stark, just created an artificial intelligence system that's trying to take over the world." Coil son explained bluntly. "We need your help to stop Ultron before anything really bad happens."
"What happens if we don't?" Percy asked, his interest piqued.
The scientist spoke for the first time, a nice British accent ringing out. "Worldwide catastrophe, Mr. Jackson. Worldwide catastrophe."
