Demetria was quickly rushing around her small apartment, she was hopping around on one foot and cursing under her breath as she couldn't find her other boot. "Tara. Come here girl." her voice was very soft, and revealed a British accent. "Tara, help mummy find her boot." she called through the apartment once more. She suddenly heard tapping on the floor of the small kitchen, Tara came into view. Tara was a white, teacup chihuahua, with a tan spot on one side of her. She happily ran to Demetria, a gleam in her eyes as she approached her owner's feet. Demetria looked down at her, smiling softly. "Tara, we talked about this. I have to go. Our neighbor Ms. Sheffield will take care of you." Demetria explained, suspecting that the tiny pup had hidden her left boot. Tara let out a whimper and licked her foot, "Tara.... Where's mummy's boot?" she asked a bit more fiercely, asserting her authority. Tara whined as she turned and walked towards the sofa. The small dog disappeared underneath it, and Demetria just stood back and watched. After a few seconds, Tara's behind could be seen squiggling out from under the sofa, her curled tail wagging slightly. She kept backing up until Demetria could see the edge of her boot in Tara's mouth. "I had a feeling you took my boot." Demetria said with a laugh as she took it from the pup and slipped it on her . Demetria sighed as she walked towards her door, stopping when she noticed Tara's water bowl was near empty. "Here you go, I'll be back soon." she said sweetly as she held her hand above the bowl, a small river of water flowing from her palm into the bowl until it was filled. Tara licked her hand before her owner walked out the door, with a heavy heart. Demetria had been living in Louisiana for a year now, she got Tara as a pup when she first got there. She wanted to find the quickest way to Belle Reve, so she thought of the vast oceans, and fell into a puddle on the street. The puddle rose to form a wave of water that rushed down the streets at a dizzying speed. She stopped when she stood just outside the gates of Belle Reve Prison. She was behind a large truck, and slowly rose from the puddle, her clothes reappearing a few seconds later. She then proudly walked to the front gates.
"Name and purpose." the security guard asked with his rifle held firmly in two of his hands.
"Demetria, water-metahuman, here to guard El Diablo." she answered simply, not wishing to talk to strangers. The guard repeated what she told him into a radio on his shirt.
"Affirmative, let her in." a voice she recognized to be Flag's came through the speaker. The guard quickly opened the gate, shutting them again once she had passed through. Task Force X had been activated, a supposed 'Terror Attack' had taken place at Midway City. Suddenly Demetria had found herself thrust into this place, unsure if the rewards would be worth the trouble. She was instantly led to El Diablo's holding tank. A few soldiers accompanied her.
"When we open this up, you blast him with water, alright?" the guard asked and Demetria looked at him accusingly, then walked over to the tank. "If we let you out, would you promise not to burn us to a cinder?" Demetria said with a bit of a chuckle in her voice. El Diablo looked up into her eyes slowly. "Like I said. I ain't gonna raise my fists again." he answered simply. Demetria smiled at him and nodded a thanks.
"It won't be necessary, open it." she told them plainly, having trust in the man who sat in the cylinder. She could see the pain and sadness deep in his eyes.
"Lady, if you won't soak him, we will." the guard threatened.
"I will not do, what isn't necessary, open it." she repeated. The guard sighed and gave a hand gesture to another man, who turned a valve, filling his tank with water. Demetria seethed with anger as they unmercifully dumped him out onto the cement ground.
"I told you it wasn't necessary!" she yelled, she walked over to the crumpled man, and formed a shield of water behind her, blocking the soldiers from rushing him. "I'm sorry." Demetria apologized to El Diablo, holding her hand out for him to take. He didn't say anything, he simply took her hand and stood. "But I'm afraid they're still going to have to restrain you." she finished, he looked at her sadly.
"I deserve it." he mumbled and she dropped the water shield.
"Hurry up before he smokes us!" the guard yelled as they drugged him before they began strapping him to a standing board with wheels. Demetria just walked in step, beside him. They were headed to a station where they would get injections of nanite explosives. Harley Quinn was first in line.
"What is that? What is that? Who are you?" she asked only to be ignored.
"Standby, arming device." someone said around her.
"Who are you? I don't know who you are." Harley struggled slightly.
"Device armed."
"Hey. Hey, I'm talking to you. Hey, I'm talking to you." Harley yelled and then squealed in shock and pain as a gun-like device injected a small explosive pill into her neck.
"Injection successful. Location verified."
Deadshot was after Harley.
"Anybody who touches me is dead. Anybody who tou... Ahh! Lady." Deadshot threatened but they paid no mind.
"Injection successful."
"Hey. Hey! Miss? What was that?" Deadshot asked in a semi-polite tone.
"Location verified." she said, ignoring him.
"Oh. Oh, you deaf. You one of them deaf hoes." Deadshot mocked as they rolled him away, Killer Croc following him. Lastly, El Diablo was rolled up, Demetria by his side. She watched as he had a dead look in his eyes, she wasn't sure if it was all because of the drugs, or if he always looked that empty inside.
"Weeee." Harley shrilled in excitement as they wheeled them down a path.
"Listen, you're being transferred. I don't know where you're going. It's from Mr. J. You gonna tell him I took care of you?" the guard next to Harley asked, fear evident in his voice.
"You're so screwed." Harley answered with an insane laugh.
"What do you mean by that? What do you mean by that? Get off me! Get off me! Harley, what do you mean by that? Harley!" The guard began to panic and other guards had to drag him away as Harley's laugh continued to ring out. They had to fly the criminals all the way up to Midway City, Illinois, so they began loading them up on a plane. El Diablo was completely out of it, but Demetria stayed by his side in case he woke up and his temper flared.
Rick Flag walked up to the group of criminals, Demetria was by his side.
"What the hell, Flag?" one of the soldiers asked.
"Unlock 'em" Flag order simply. They did as they were told.
"Hi, boys! Harley Quinn. How do you do?" Harley said as she stuck her hand out for someone to shake.
"Huh? What was that? I should kill everyone and escape?" she furthered when no-one responded.
"Sorry. The voices. I'm kidding. Jeez. That's not what they really said." she finished with a giggle.
Demetria was looking for someone who wasn't there yet, biting her nails out of nerves.
"What do we got here? 12 pounds of shit in a 10-pound sack. Welcome to the party, Captain Boomerang." Flag stated as they cut a man out of a sack. Demetria watched on with intense eyes as a man blasted out of the sack and began punching soldiers, until they pinned him.
"Hey! Hey, hey, hey... What's going on, man? Hey, one minute I'm playing mahjong with me Nanna... Then this red streak hits me outta nowhere." he explains, lies flowing out of his mouth like water from Demetria's hands.
"Shut up! You were caught robbing a diamond exchange." Flag interjected.
"I was not." Captain Boomerang lied easily once more. Even though Demetria was supposed to be keeping her eyes on El Diablo, she couldn't help but watch Captain Boomerang with inquisitive eyes.
"Here comes slipknot... The man who could climb anything. Wonderful." Flag said sarcastically, just then Harley glanced over at Demetria, smiling slightly.
"You're pretty. Reminds me of an old friend of mine, she was a red-head too." She said with a giggle and a look of remembrance in her eyes. Demetria simply ignored her.
"Have a good time, scumbag." A woman stated as Slipknot stepped out of the van, he turned and punched her out.
"She had a mouth." Slipknot explained, Demetria found herself struggling inwardly, fighting the urge to maim or seriously injure him.
"Listen up! In your necks... Injection you got, it's a nanite explosive. It's the size of a rice grain but it's powerful as a hand grenade. You disobey me, you die. You try to escape, you die. You otherwise irritate or vex me, and guess what? You die." Flag stated as he walked in front of the group.
"I'm known to be quite vexing. I'm just forewarning you." Harley explained, her hand in the air.
"Lady, shut up! This is the deal. You're going somewhere very bad... To do something that'll get you killed. But until that happens... You're my problem." Flag went on, authority radiating from his voice.
"So was that like a pep talk?" Deadshot asked sarcastically.
"Yeah. That was a pep talk. There's your shit. Grab what you need for a fight. We're wheels up in 10." Flag explained.
"You might wanna work on your team motivation thing. You heard of Phil Jackson?" Deadshot pressed on.
"Yeah."
"He's like the gold standard, okay? Triangle, bitch. Study." Deadshot finished before walking over to his crate, to get ready for the battle ahead of them. Demetria walked through the crowd, eyeing all of the 'criminals' carefully. Harley was touching up her make-up.
"Won't fit anymore? Too much junk in the trunk?" Harley asked Deadshot, who was staring down at his white mask.
"Nah. Every time I put this on, somebody dies." he responded.
"And?" she furthered.
"I like putting it on." he admitted.
"Goody. Something tells me a whole lotta people are about to die." Harley said sadistically. Holding a mallet beside her face.
"Yeah, it's us." El Diablo stated, breaking his long silence. Demetria couldn't help but listen as he spoke, there was a depth to his voice that attracted her to him out of curiosity.
"We're being led to our deaths." he finished sadly.
"Speak for yourself, mate." Captain Boomerang spoke up, earning the small red-head's attention. She listened intently to his Australian accent, and cringed slightly at his crudeness.
"Hey, what's that crap on your face? Does it wash off?" he finished, only making Demetria shake her head in disbelief.
"Hey, if you like a girl, can you light her cigarette with your pinkie? Because that would be real classy." Harley asked, making Demetria cringe at her bluntness, ignoring the fact that El Diablo had a tough time with his fire powers.
"Hey, y'all might wanna leave old boy alone. He could torch this whole joint. Ain't that right, ese?" Deadshot stated, once again making Demetria shake her head.
"Ain't got nothing to worry about from me. I'm cool, homie." he explained carefully.
"How 'bout you, dollface? What're you in for?" Captain Boomerang asked Demetria, an inquisitive look on his face.
"Don't talk to her, she's the enemy." Deadshot informed him, Demetria glared at him.
"I'm not the enemy. I'm just not a criminal." she responded plainly, walking away from the group. Flag quickly walked up and shoved a tablet into the faces of the group members.
"Behold the voice of god." he explained simply.
"For those of you who don't know me officially... My name is Amanda Waller. There's an active terrorist event in midway city. I want you to enter the city, rescue hvt-1 and get them to safety." Amanda explained to the group.
"I'm sorry. For those of us who don't speak good guy, what is HVT-1?" Deadshot inquired.
"The only person that matters in the city, the one person you can't kill. Complete the mission, you get time off your prison sentence. Fail the mission, you die. Anything happens to colonel Flag, I'll kill every single one of you. Remember, I'm watching. I see everything." Amanda threatened before the screen went black.
"There's your pep talk." Flag informed Deadshot.
"Compared to your shit, she killed it. So that's it? What, we some kind of suicide squad?" Deadshot asked, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"I'll notify your next of kin. Alpha, bravo team. Mount up!" Flag ordered, all the 'criminals' and 'soldiers' mounted onto the plane, to be joined a few minutes later by a sword wielding woman wearing a white mask.
"You're late." Flag stated.
"I was busy." she answered in another language.
"This is katana." Flag introduced, then pointed to Demetria, who was sitting beside El Diablo and Captain Boomerang.
"And this is Demetria. They've got my back. Katana can cut all of you in half with one sword stroke... Just like mowing the lawn. I would advise not getting killed by her. Her sword traps the souls of its victims. Demetria can cause you to implode from the inside using pressurized water, it's painful." Flag explained. Demetria held back the urge to cry and sighed at his exaggeration of her powers. She would never use them to hurt some one. Not again.
"Harley Quinn. Nice to meet you. Love your perfume. What is that? The stench of death?" Harley asked in a joking manor, speaking to Katana. She took out her sword and advanced slightly.
"Whoa. Easy, cowgirl. Ain't that kind of mission. Have a seat." Flag said.
"She seems nice." Harley finished with a smile. Demetria shifted uncomfortably in her seat, she could feel someone watching her.
"Hoy, was that a British accent I picked up earlier?" Captain Boomerang asked, a flirtatious glint in his eye. Demetria inwardly cringed at the thought.
"Obvious, is it?"
"Yeah. You got a boyfriend?" he furthered.
"One more word, and I will spray pressurized water at you. It will be painful." she threatened, unsure of how to handle the situation. He slowly leaned back in his seat, leaving her to stew in her own thoughts, as they headed for the heart of Midway city.
