September 2018
A young girl with vibrant orange hair walked through a bustling street, a baby was sleeping peacefully in her arms. The baby had her mothers red hair, and behind her closed lids, she had her fathers brown eyes. She approached a building, it was burning, the fire licking at every window. A child could be heard screaming inside. The young girl felt fear creep up on her as she searched the sea of firefighters.
"Delilah, you might want to back up." a firefighter in his early forties said as he pulled on her shoulder, dragging her backwards.
"Harold, have you seen Diego?" she asked, her voice soft and angelic. But it was laced with fear and uncertainty.
"No, I haven't.... HAS ANYONE SEEN DIEGO?" Harold yelled out to the other firefighters, one young man stepped forward.
"I have, seen him pop into the building a few ticks ago. Said he'd heard a kid screaming." the young man answered as several groups of firefighters were blasting the building with gallons and gallons of water. Delilah's heart began to race, she could no longer hear the child screaming. The building was catching fire faster than they could put it out. She was tempted to call upon her powers, but knew better of it. She didn't need to be caught, she didn't need to draw attention to herself. So she bowed her head and silently prayed that he was okay, that he would walk out of that building proud, holding the child he'd gone in to rescue. A minutes went by and the baby in her arms awoke, beginning to cry out of fear of all the loud noises surrounding them. Just as Delilah began to lose hope, a figure ran out of the door. His uniform sooty, he was coughing slightly as a small boy cling to his neck tightly.
"Diego!" Delilah said excitedly as she ran over to him. A young man ran over and grabbed the little boy.
"Marcus!" the man exclaimed.
"Daddy!" the boy said back, coughing a few times. Delilah stood beside Diego as the young man held his hand out for him to shake.
"Thank you-" he trailed off as he shook Diego's hand.
"Diego." he informed with a slight smile on his features.
"Diego, thank you Diego. You saved my son." he said and he suddenly pulled him into a hug.
"I was just doing my job. I know how much kids mean to their loved ones." Diego answered, shooting a soft look to Delilah and touching the baby's foot with his fingertip.
"You have a beautiful family, thank you for saving mine." the man responded before heading towards the ambulance where his son was carted off to be checked over. Delilah smiled up at Diego, looking deep into his brown eyes.
"Don't scare me like that." she said with a giggle as she caressed his sooty hand. He merely nodded and walked towards Harold, who was wiping his brow as they finally had the fire under control.
"Glad to see you're in one piece Diego, I could have sworn I told all of you to stay clear of that building." he scolded, but his eyes showed a heroic twinkle. Diego let his head hang slightly, and then he looked over to his girlfriend and child.
"Oh, go home, Diego. Clean yourself up, take care of that beautiful girl and that child. I think you've earned a break." Harold said happily, his green eyes twinkling away.
"Thank you sir, I will." Diego said happily as he began walking down the street with Delilah, the baby in her arms slowly drifting back off to sleep.
"How's doing?" Diego asked his features softening, despite the haunting tattoos.
"She's brilliant, little tyke's been sleeping most of the day. But I think she misses her daddy." Delilah said honestly, a small smile tugging at her lips as they approached their house.
"I missed her too, and her mother of course." Diego said cheekily back, yearning to touch Delilah. To hug her or kiss her, but not wanting to cover her in soot. They walked into the house, Tara instantly running to the door to greet them.
"!Ay mi pequeno chihuahua, Tara." Diego exclaimed as he waved his hand at the excited puppy.
"I love it when you speak Spanish..." Delilah said dreamily as she laid Sheila in her bouncy chair and got some clothes out for Diego.
"Realmente, bien me encanta tu acento mami." He continued as he stepped into the shower, the hot water washing away the soot as the soap suds multiplied on his muscled body.
"What does that mean?" Delilah asked with a giggle, she had never bothered to learn another language.
"I said: Really, well I like your accent mommy." he responded with a laugh, pulling Delilah into the shower with him, instantly soaking her hair and clothes.
"Diego!" she exclaimed before he pulled her into him and kissed her passionately. She wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss. He pulled away and began nibbling at her neck.
"Diego, I have to go watch the baby." she whined with a little bit of a giggle. He finally stopped his teasing and gave her a meaningful look.
"Alright. I'll be out soon, baby. We'll finish this tonight." he whispered in her ear, sending shivers down her spine. She smiled and kissed his cheek before stepping out of the shower, dripping all over the floor.
"You soaked my clothes, now I have to change!" she exclaimed while laughing at the thought. She began to strip off her clothes and grabbed a towel to wrap around herself.
"Well it worked, didn't it?" he asked as he continued to scrub at his skin.
"Worked for what?" she asked as she secured the towel around her small frame.
"I got your clothes off." he said with a chuckle, Delilah threw a sponge over the door of the shower, hitting Diego in the head with it.
"Oi, get your head out of the gutter!" she exclaimed and began walking out of the bathroom.
"I can't help it baby. It's where it lives!" he said loudly to make sure she heard him. She sighed with a wide smile on her face as she saw Sheila still sleeping, laying in her bouncy chair. Delilah picked her up and placed her in her playpen, with a few of her favorite toys. She then grabbed a comfy outfit out of her room and dressed quickly before returning to the living room and watching TV as Sheila began to stir. A few minutes later, Sheila was up and playing with her toys and Diego came walking in.
"Dada!" Sheila exclaimed once her twinkling brown eyes caught him. Diego smiled as he walked over to her playpen,
"Buenos días mi pequeño ángel." he exclaimed as he picked her up and sat down next to Delilah.
"Diego you need to stop scaring me. I was worried about you." Delilah said as she watched Diego play with Sheila's little fingers.
"I know, but it's my job, baby. I save lives. For once I'm the good guy." he said with pride evident in his voice.
"Okay, but I need you around here, I have lots of plans for us." she said happily, kissing his cheek.
"Really? Like what?" he countered, a smirk on his face.
"Like our wedding, and I want a big family, and I'm going to need your help with that." she responded. He smiled and bit his lip.
"When do we get to start working on that big family?" he asked, wiggling his eyebrows at her.
"Once Sheila is two, I'm not ready for another little one just yet." she answered, causing him to frown a bit.
"But we can still have fun." she finished, wiggling her eyebrows at him. They leaned into one another and kissed sweetly and tenderly before going back to playing with Sheila.
A few days later on September 20th they celebrated both Delilah and Sheila's birthday. A large cake had swirly writing on it, Happy Birthday Delilah 18 and Sheila 1. They lived happily for another year, Delilah and Diego getting married in a small ceremony on Christmas of 2018. Then she got pregnant a little bit earlier than she had planned, and gave birth to a baby boy on December 12th, 2019 a few months after Sheila's 2nd birthday and Delilah's 19th. The baby boy had his fathers black hair, and his mothers blue eyes. is what they named him. Both of their children had strange names, considering Sheila's middle name was her grandmother on her mothers side's maiden name, Talbert. They were a happy family, planning on having a few more children. But they were focusing on raising the ones they had first.
It was early in January, 2021. just had his 1st birthday a few weeks ago, and would be 4 in 8 months. Diego came home from shopping, he set the bags on the dining room table and walked into the living room to see Delilah holding Damian in her arms, Sheila was fast asleep on the couch. Tara was curled into a ball in her bed on the floor. Diego walked over to Delilah.
"Dada!" Damian cooed with a grin on his face. Diego took him from Delilah and sat down on the couch next to Sheila. Delilah followed and planted a kiss on Diego's cheek. Sheila woke up and cuddled into her fathers side as they watched cartoons. Just as they were getting settled, the doorbell rang. Delilah got up, sheila following her. Diego walked up behind them, Damian held firmly in his arms. Sheila held onto her mother's leg as she opened the door. Tara stood protectively beside Sheila. Delilah's breath hitched in her throat, her crystal blue eyes went wide with shock and horror. Diego stiffened up beside her, and Sheila gripped tighter onto her leg out of fear.
"Chato and Demetria Santana. You two are a hard couple to find." Amanda Waller said with a hard look on her face as she glanced down at the two innocent children clinging to them.
"Well, can I come in?" she asked after a moment. Demetria closed her mouth and nodded as she stepped aside. Amanda walked in and Chato shut the door behind them.
"Cute dog." Amanda said plainly as she took a seat on the couch, already feeling in control.
"Sheila, take Damian and go to your room." Chato instructed softly as he set Damian in his walking chair.
"But, daddy!" she whined.
"No buts, go." Demetria said hardly, and Sheila nodded as she pushed Damian's chair to her room, and shut the door.
"What are you doing here Amanda, how did you find us?" Demetria asked, standing next to Chato.
"You two have looks, that are unmistakable. I knew I'd find you sooner or later. Unfortunately it wasn't sooner. And I need your help." Amanda answered.
"Chato is good. He's more than redeemed himself, he saves lives for a living. We have a family! You can't take that from us." Demetria stated fiercely, grabbed Chato's hand and holding it firmly. Amanda looked at their interlocked hands and sighed.
"I didn't come here to haul you in. I can see Chato has changed his ways. I'm willing to let you live as you are. As long as you help me." Amanda went on, a pained expression on her face.
"Help you with what?" Chato asked, glaring at Amanda.
"Harley Quinn escaped Belle Reve 5 years ago. No big deal. A few more gangster deaths. But then Harley decided to recruit some old friends. Poison Ivy, Catwoman and the likes. They've gone on a rampant all out killing spree. I need the task force back. Deadshot is willing to fight so long as he gets to see his daughter. Killer Croc is easy to work with. But Captain Boomerang went into a deep depression after your 'death' obviously feeling guilty for everything he's done in the past that led him to you, and your demise. I need you to come back. To show him your alive and convince him to fight for your freedom. If you refuse, I'll see to it that Chato is locked up permanently. If you get him to fight, and if you fight with us. I'll let you go. Do we have a deal?" Amanda asked, her aura of power dissipating as she appeared to be becoming very anxious.
"You'll let us go? Scott-free?" Demetria clarified.
"Scott-free." Amanda answered.
"What about our kids?" Demetria went on.
"I can assure you they will have government protection until the job is done." Amanda finished, looking nervously from Demetria and Chato. The young orange haired girl looked up at her tattooed love. Asking permission with their eyes.
"When do we leave?" they asked together. Amanda smiled as she stood up, shaking their hands, and nodding at them.

Demetria walked into Belle Reve for the 3rd time in her life. Her heart was beating quickly as anxiety coursed through her body. Chato and Demetria were led directly to Captain Boomerang's cell. They stood on one end as Boomerang was asleep. In a cold sweat it seemed as though he was having a terrible nightmare. Chato stood by the door out of direct eyesight. Boomerang stirred and sat bolt upright. He was sighing as he tried quickly to catch his breath.
"Dad." Demetria said weakly. He turned his head to face her, his eyes lighting up temporarily , before dulling again.
"I'm going bloody mad. I'm seeing mirages ." he whisperd to himself, Demetria sighed and ran forward. She engulfed him in a hug and he jumped from fright.
"You really are here!" he said with excitement evident in his tone, and he hugged her tightly. She laughed as he hugged her as if he truly needed her. Suddenyl he let her go and pushed him away.
"How dare you just up an leave letting your ole dad think your done for!" he screamed and looked at her offended
"I know I wasn't there for you growing up. But crikey I missed you when I thought you were gone. I love you Demetria!" he exclaimed as he pulled her close and hugged her again, nearly squeezing the air out of her.
"Well dad. While you're so happy. I have some news." Demetria said uneasily, gesturing for Chato to move forward. He stepped up and grabbed Demetria around the waist.
"Oh, you're still with the fire bloke, ey?" he said gruffly, upset slightly.
"Yes, I married him 3 years ago." Demetria answered proudly, yet somewhat scared.
"You did what?! How could you get married without my permission. You can't ju-" Demetria pulled out a picture of two children, and held in the air in front of Boomerang's face. His sentence trailed off.
"These are our children. Sheila is nearly 4. Damian is 1." she explained happily. He eyed the picture happily. Then his eyes began glistening with tears that he didn't let fall,
"Well what do ya know. I'm a grandad!" he said excitedly, looking the picture over. Chato stepped forward and held out a little, stuffed, pink, unicorn for Boomerang to take.
"I was hoping you might forgive us for what we've done to you, and give me your blessing." Chato explained. Boomerang took the unicorn slowly, smiling like an idiot the entire time.
"Oh, bring it in! I have a family again!" Boomerang said proudly, his face beaming.
"Well dad. Amanda Waller offered to let us go free. To raise our children, if you fight with her on her Task Force." Demetria explained. Boomerang's face fell.
"I knew there was a reason you came here. But if that's what it'll take to see my grandchildren have a decent life, then I'll take it." he said with a smile. They all lauded and hugged and talked for a few more moments before preparing to leave.
"Should I call you dad now?" Chato asked Boomerang just before they left.
"Don't push it, fire boy!" Boomerang flared back before they separated. Chato and Demetria headed for their government provided apartment until the Task Force was activated.
