The sun was gone, Demetria's shirt began to glow a mixture of shades of blue. It resembled a waterfall, water running down her chest and stomach. She looked down at her hands, and clenched them together out of fear and hatred of her powers.
"Oi, why's that thing glowing?" Captain Boomerang asked, pointing to Demetria's shirt. She looked up at him for a brief moment.
"It's powered by the water inside of me, the energy. But you can only see it at night." she answered carefully, feeling his eyes travel her body. Harley was looking out of the window behind her.
"Ooh, look at the pretty lights! Are you guys seeing this?" she asked, looking around the group. Demetria looked out the window and saw a energy flow in the sky, it unnerved her at how much it looked like what happened when she lost control. So she quickly looked away.
"What happened?" Deadshot asked.
"Terror attack. Dirty bombs, bad guys shooting up the place with AKs. You know, usual shit." Flag lied simply, even Demetria knew it was Enchantress, and she wasn't allowed to know very much.
"Right. Yeah, you're a bad liar. I don't know if they told you... But I'm a hitman. I'm not a fireman. I don't save people."
"Anything for a dollar, right?"
"You know the dark places, too. Don't act like you don't." Deadshot exclaimed.
"I'm a soldier. And you're a serial killer who takes credit cards. When the shooting starts, and it will, you'll cut and run." Flag informed him angrily. Then all of a sudden the aircraft began to shake and go down, Demetria held tight to the bench she was seated on. When it hit the ground she was flung to the floor, a heavy weight on top of her. She opened her eyes to see Captain Boomerang pinning her to the ground, a smirk on his face. "This is a nice position. I always did have a soft spot for Brits." he said, wiggling his eyebrows.
"Okay that's it!" Demetria shouted as she pushed him off of her and stood, Flag grabbed her arm.
"You are not authorized to reveal your identity!" he whisper shouted to her.
"I don't bloody care! If this Arsehole hits on me one more time, I'm gonna lose it!" she stated and jerked her arm free.
"Captain Boomerang. I think it's high time I introduced myself. Demetria Harkness." she explained, he smiled at first, then his eyes bugged clear out of his skull.
"Harkness. Ay, what a coincidence." he said nervously.
"No coincidence, I'm your daughter." she stated plainly and walked out into the street, leaving him standing there confused.
"Were okay. Assets are undamaged." Flag stated into his radio, then he grabbed Demetria's arm again.
"You were asked here under the assumption that you would not reveal yourself to your father." Flag informed her rather loudly, she sighed as she pulled her arm away again.
"You spend an hour being hit on by your own bloody dad and then come and talk to me." she stated fiercely as she walked up beside El Diablo. They walked on behind the soldiers, Demetria was supposed to stay by El Diablo, in order to put him out quickly if he flared up all of a sudden. She stopped when she heard a clack of metal on the street.
"Oh, no!" she exclaimed, picking up one of the butterfly buttons that were on her boots. El Diablo stopped and watched her.
"What's with all the butterflies?" he asked carefully, she smiled.
"I'm slightly obsessed with them, I just really like butterflies." she answered simply, putting the loose button down into her boot, to be fixed later. Up ahead Captain Boomerang was chatting with Slipknot.
"Mind games." Captain Boomerang said lowly, "What's that?" Slipknot responded.
"All this bomb in the neck crap. That ain't real, mate. See, they're trying to trap us with our own minds, right? But you look around, we're free, brah."
"How do you know this?" he asked.
"Just trust me. I know, all right? It's a con." Boomerang clarified.
"Now I'm going, because I got a life to live. Question is, are you coming?" Boomerang continued to ask Slipknot.
"Yeah." he responded.
"Smart." Boomerang finished. A scuttle broke out as Captain Boomerang threw one of his many boomerangs and tried to run, Slipknot used his grappling hook to try and climb a nearby building.
"Where're you going? Hold your fire." Flag ordered.
"Sorry. It's what I do." Boomerang apologized to Katana, who had pinned him against a building, one of her swords to his neck.
Flag pushed Slipknot's picture on his phone and an explosion could be seen on Slipknot, his body fell limp onto the side of the building, his head blown off.
"Now that's killer app." Harley said with a smile.
"Okay. You wanna keep playing the Hollywood squares version of 'I'll blow your freaking head off?'" Flag asked, he stepped in front of El Diablo.
"Are you next?" he asked.
"You tripping, homie." El Diablo answered. Demetria gave Flag a hard glance as he walked on.
"You next, Deadshot?" he asked as he walked up to him.
"Did you just threatened me?" Deadshot asked, stalking up to him.
"Oh, yeah." he said nodding his head.
"He just threatened me." Deadshot clarified as he pointed at Flag and walked back to the group.
"Move." Flag ordered.
"You have a boyfriend?" Boomerang asked Katana, who released him. They continued walking on.
"All right, I'm gonna kill him." Deadshot whispered to Harley.
"Well, you better make it quick 'cause he's gonna kill all of us one by one." she answered.
"I'm gonna drop him, the sword lady. 5 or 7 of these seals. After that, I'm gonna need some help, you down?" Deadshot asked again.
"Always. What about the shit in our necks?" Harley asked.
"Your friend's gonna help us out with that, right?" Deadshot asked one last question.
"You're my friend, too." Harley said, nudging him with a smile on her face.
"Stay evil, doll face. Spread the word." Deadshot stated, and Harley fell back.
"So, I'm thinking if we move together we can kill all of these guys and go our separate ways, yeah?" Harley asked Boomerang.
"Sounds good." he answered.
"Spread the word." Harley stated then left his side.
"Psst, hoy. Hoy. We need your help, man. When the time is right, you hit Flag with a fireball, he'll be too busy burning to death to have a go at us with his final doom." Boomerang told El Diablo. Demetria wasn't too far from him, she could hear every word he said.
"Then what?" he asked.
"Then we get out of here." he answered.
"And do what?" El Diablo asked again.
"Who are you, bloody Socrates with all the questions. Freedom, man. Freedom, you remember that, don't you?"
"We're criminals, you know that, right?"
"Yeah, it's great. Come on, do the bastard." Boomerang said and Demetria tapped his shoulder.
"You do know I heard all of that, right?" she asked him and he sighed.
"Now we gotta kill her too. Pity, I liked her." he whispered to El Diablo.
"You're gonna kill your daughter?" El Diablo asked.
"I right keep forgetting that. You wouldn't rat out your ole dad, would ya?" He asked Demetria who smiled.
"Who are you to me? You ran out on mum." she explained and Boomerang sighed as he walked towards killer Croc.
"Hey, be careful. He eats people." El Diablo warned him.
"Solemn mother superia, what?" Boomerang asked.
"He eats people for reals, homie. He's a cannibal." he explained, Boomerang nodded and went on. Harley walked up to El Diablo and wrapped an arm around him, she started to say something, but he pushed her away, "No." he stated plainly. All of a sudden Killer Croc slammed Boomerang into a pile of trash, Harley ran up to him, "What did you say to him?" she asked, "Nothing. Just having a laugh. No worries." he answered.
"You really aren't gonna rat them out?" El Diablo asked Demetria who laughed in response.
"They'll never make it, they'll be blown to bits before they could kill anyone. They don't realize Flag isn't the only one with a detonation remote." she explained, he just nodded.
"Why are you so nice to me?" he asked again, looking at her strangely. She sighed as she turned to face him, holding her hands out in front of her.
"Because, I know what it's like to fear your own hands, your own abilities. I know what it's like to lose someone you love because of it." she answered, a small fountain in each of her palms, the water running off of them onto the cement below. El Diablo reached out, and gently closed her hands with his, stopping the flow of water. She looked up at him with tears beginning to form in her eyes, he simply nodded before letting her go.
They all stopped as a group of mutated humans were wondering the streets ahead of them. Suddenly they spotted the group and began running towards them. The soldiers were firing their weapons, Boomerang was trowing his sharpened boomerangs, Killer Croc was slamming them down and breaking them. Harley was either shooting or beating them with her bat. Katana was cutting them in half with her sword, and Demetria was firing balls of pressurized water at their heads, successfully blowing them off. El Diablo was standing off to the side, he wasn't going to use his powers. Demetria was attempting to wipe out five of them at once with a blade of water, but she lost control. Her palms exploded with pressurized water, "El Diablo! Look out!" she yelled as the water was heading for him. He instantly put up a fire shield, the water hit it and evaporated into thin air. He began walking towards Demetria, his fire shield evaporating all the water that was escaping her hands. Finally the shield disappeared, his hand was on fire, and it touched her hand, which appeared to be pure water. Their hands extinguished each other. Their human hands returning. Deadshot had just taken out the rest of the army that was headed towards them, Flag was in a sort of shock.
"I'm sorry." Demetria apologized to El Diablo, who shook his head.
"It's fine." he answered before walking away, headed towards the rest of the group.
"Flag, I need to expel some of this water before I lose control again." Demetria explained as she reached Flag.
"How long has it been?" he asked.
"A month. I've been fighting the pressure for a week now." she answered.
"Son of a bitch. You need to hold that shit in. If you lose control we're all dead." he answered, a tinge of fear in his voice.
"I'll make sure that doesn't happen." El Diablo stated as he walked up beside her.
"Yeah, that's just great, you two keep each other cool okay?" Flag asked, his head shaking slightly.
Boomerang walked up to El Diablo.
"You were some help, Princess." he said, obviously flustered.
"It's better this way. Trust me." El Diablo responded.
"Oh, yeah. You're the fire bloke. Eh?"
"Yeah, I was. Yeah."
"Right, yeah. Hey. Well, look at here. It's fire!" Boomerang taunted, Demetria aimed her palm at him and sprayed water in his face, making him stop instantly.
"Nice. Now I'm soaked." Boomerang commented.
"You deserved it." Demetria responded as they walked forward, El Diablo with a small smile playing on his lips.
"The brief said terrorist. You want to start explaining this?" one of the soldiers asked Flag.
"If I told you, would you believe me?" he responded.
"What are they?" Harley asked
"I don't know." he answered.
"That's bullshit. Thing is, he owned a $3000 watch. Is that a person?" Deadshot asked.
"It was. Now it's not." he answered. Then he spotted Captain Boomerang fooling with the watch that was one one of the mutated people.
"Hey, don't!" he yelled.
"What?" Boomerang asked.
"We got a job to do. We're moving. Get your boys moving." Flag stated to the other soldiers.
"Let's go." the soldier responded and all the other fell in behind him. They continued walking down the street, Harley stopped when she saw something she wanted in a store window. She broke the window with her bat, reached in, and grabbed a purse.
"Seriously? What the hell is wrong with you people?" Flag asked.
"We're bad guys. It's what we do." Harley answered as if it was so obvious. Deadshot was looking in a store window that held a group of mannequins, one of them wearing a jacket similar to his daughter's.
"Hey, Deadshot, I've been thinking. We don't come together, no one walking out of here alive." Flag said as they fell into step together.
"Mm. And?" he asked.
"These people respect you, you got influence." Flag stated.
"What's your threat right now?" he asked, a sarcastic grin on his face.
"You're a man of your word, right? I want my mission. And you want your life and your kid back. You help me keep this Mardi Gras parade in line, I'll hook you up." Flag offered.
"Waller is the puppet master, you ain't got shit to hook me up with."
"I got plenty of my own strings to pull. You just get me to the top of that target building and get my rescuee on that extraction helo..."
"And you're going to make sure I get paid?"
"Yeah, you get paid. You get paid and you get your fresh start." Flag clarified.
"Our body's at the top of that building. We get up there... Pull them out of the vault they're hiding in. Helos extract us off the roof." Flag finished, as they all looked up at the building ahead of them.
"Flag, who's up there?" Deadshot asked.
"It's none of your concern." Flag answered.
"Do you know who's up there?" Deadshot asked.
"Nope." he answered. Demetria saw Harley staring at motorcycle on the ground, sadness covered her features. She was obviously thinking about something painful. Finally she snapped out of it.
"Harley, you coming?" Deadshot asked as everyone else was already walking on. Harley walked up to Killer Croc.
"Why do you eat people?" she asked.
"Give me power." he answered with a growl.
"Would you like to eat me?" she asked.
"Hell, no."
"Aw, why not?"
"I don't want your crazy." he answered truthfully.
"Says the guy who lives in a sewer." she mocked.
"At least I know it's a sewer." he responded.
"Oh, I get it. Because it's like, this is a sewer too. Only with nice shops and restaurants, right? You hate mankind much? Let me guess. Mommy didn't take you to Chuck E. Cheese on your 6th birthday. I can recommend a good therapist." Harley taunted. Killer Croc raised his fist to her. El Diablo and Demetria walked up beside her.
"Why?" El Diablo asked.
"Because I'm bored. I need a victim, a mind to pry apart and spit in." she responded.
"Your boredom is no reason to be a git and bully someone." Demetria stated.
"Just leave it, mate. She's a rabbit hole, don't fall in." Captain Boomerang stated. Causing Harley to hiss at him before walking up behind Katana.
"And here's one now. Japanese, female, mid-twenties, 5 foot 5, good health, athletic and... an only child, with deep seeded father issues. Daddy wanted a son, so she has to hide behind a mask" Harley taunted her.
"I am not... hiding." Katana said as she pulled her mask off.
"Yeah, that was gangster." Harley responded.
"Harley, why don't you stop acting like a drunken stripper." Deadshot said, pulling her away from Katana.
"You want to tell me what the hell is going on then? Because... I smell a rat." Harley said, sniffing the air around Deadshot.
"If they don't blow our heads off, we'll have to fight our way out of this city. I need you to play nice with the other children." he explained.
"And quietly return to my cage. Sure. Okay. Hey, that's okay. Sellout, I get it. Like you. I know how the world works, okay? And when it comes to the heart, everyone for themselves, right?" Harley said and grabbed her bat before walking away, leaving him to think about what he was planning on doing. As Demetria and El Diablo slowly bonded over their unusual powers, that they felt hopeless to control.
