August 9th, 1986
Opal spent the remainder of the weekend, preparing for today. Her first day at Derry High, her slight figure almost trembled with excitement.
The morning, so far, had been a good one. Opal had woken up early, and she managed to pick out a cute outfit and look- she thought- pretty.
She wasn't one to wear make-up, so she didn't need to spend any extra time, applying some.
She had packed her handbag, the night before, she haphazardly squashed several textbooks inside.
She was taking senior level subjects, because she was pushed up a grade, she prided herself on her intelligence.
Veronica Lane prepared her niece some avocado toast for breakfast. She wanted Opal's day to go well, the poor teen had been through so much, she needed a break.
Veronica's worries for Opal mainly consisted of the fear that she would get mixed up with the wrong crowd.
'God hope Opal doesn't hang around that trashmouth Tozier.'
As she finished her brief mental prayer, Opal skipped down the stairs and greeted her with a big hug.
"I'm really excited Aunty Vee, but I'm a little nervous."
Opal chimed, still practically buzzing."Don't be nervous, love, just try to make some nice friends"
Veronica spoke emphasising the 'nice.'"Now come eat, and then I can give you a lift."
The teen plucked up the slice of toast and shovelled it in like a vacuum, she was quite hungry after all.

As Opal stepped out of her Aunt's car, she began to grow increasingly nervous.
In fact, her knees went all wobbly, she had to make a good first impression.
This was her new life after all.
She looked around at all the people crowding around the school gates. They were grouped together, and it was easy to see how each person fit in with their group.
Seemed as if everything was based on physical appearance, Opal wasn't surprised however for this was just how she expected high school to be.
Walking into the school, she got a lot of looks from girls and boys alike.
However, no one spoke up -except a couple strange boys; who whistled in her wake.
Her first task of the day was to find some sort of the central office, where she could ask for some help and perhaps a timetable.
Then after that, she planned to get to class and find someone kind to sit beside and possibly make a friend.
Her first task was relatively easy for her to achieve, as the office was right at the front of the school and had a massive sign directing her to the entrance.
She softly slipped inside, not wanting to make a loud noise, in such a quiet environment.
Opal Faye caught sight of a middle-aged looking woman sitting behind the main desk - her name badge read Dorris May-,
"Excuse me, sorry to be a bother, but I'm new here, and I was just wondering if there was someone I could talk to about getting a timetable."
The woman smiled at her but did not respond, instead, she pointed towards a closed door.
The door had 'Principle' painted on it in white block letters.
'Makes sense.' Opal thought.
She knocked on the closed door, and entered it when she heard a woman's voice from the other side call out
"Come in."
The first thing she noticed was an elderly woman that had kindness written all over her face.
The next thing, however, she saw was the curly dark-haired boy from the pharmacy sitting in a chair opposite the old woman.
He turned and chuckled, "No shit, look who it is."
Was all he said, which mind you, she had no idea what was supposed to mean.
"Language Richie."
Scolded the old woman fondly.Opal just quirked an eyebrow at him and turned back to the woman- which she assumed to be the principal.
"Excuse me, I don't mean to be a bother." She repeated, "but I'm new here, and I was wondering if I could get a timetable."
"Ah, you must be Opal Faye, I'm Ms Duffy, the Principal of Derry High. I've got your timetable right here in fact."
She ruffled through a stack of papers on her desk pulling out a slightly crumpled sheet and passing it to her.
"We don't get many new students here, the last new student that moved into town was probably a boy called Ben about 3 years ago in the summer."
Weirdly enough, the boy with glasses and dark hair shuddered a bit when the principal mentioned the summer of '83.
"I just moved in with my aunt actually, on the other side of town."
The teen girl made small talk, quickly scanning over her schedule and sitting down in the chair beside the gorgeous boy.
"Do you think I could get a map of the school, I think I'll get lost." She giggled a little at the thought of how lost she was.
The dark-haired boy smiled at her cute laugh.
"Of course, dear" Ms Duffy's eyes crinkled as she warmly smiled at the girl.
"You and Richie, both have first-period literature it seems. Why don't you walk Opal there."
The woman ordered rather than asked.
"It would be my pleasure to accompany you to our class, darling."
The now-named male whispered into Opal's ear as the pair stood up, her cheeks flushed a little.
"Richie, before you go" spoke up the Principal one final time.
"Don't get into any trouble today."
"I can only try, Lucille."
He saluted her and traipsed out the door and through the office, with Opal following in his footsteps like a lost puppy.
