August 9th, 1986
The remainder of her day was ridiculously dull and was exactly how she had predicted. However, after first period Richie approached her and proceeded to complain about her seating choice because she had sat beside the resident pervert of Derry High.
Which she decided to argue about because Opal was already about three hundred percent sure that Richie held the role of number one pervert.
He told her that he wasn't technically a pervert because he had gotten with a girl before.
Opal didn't argue with this because she had indeed seen him have to very uncomfortably reject that Greta girl only a couple of days ago.
This brief conversation had been the highlight of her day.
She sat in the library during the break because she was too nervous to walk into the cafeteria in front of everyone at lunch and probably wind up sitting alone.
She didn't actually mind the library at all though. It gave her some extra time to read 'Wuthering Heights.'
She decided she wanted to get top marks in literature because it didn't seem like anyone else in that class was putting in any effort.
Except for maybe Archie the apparent pervert.
Her classes -so far- weren't all that interesting but that may have been just because she,
1) had no friends
or
2) sat at the front of the class and therefore was constantly under the watchful eye of every teacher and couldn't have any fun.She didn't really mind. However, she knew she had to focus.
Her final session of the day was Biology, and she had over the course of a single hour, developed a very strong distaste for it.
Her teacher seemed to have taken a particular liking to her, and she did appreciate that however, her teaching style was terribly tedious.
To further her slight revulsion for the class, a couple of boys at the back of class kept throwing paper at her head, in some sort of twisted plot to attract her attention.
She of course just chose to ignore it, and precisely seven paper balls in a girl turned to them and told them to
"fuck right off"
because apparently they were "desperate" and it was
"frankly sad."At the end of class, Opal went up to the girl; who turned out to be a gorgeous redhead and thanked her for the help.
"No worries, I'm always here to look out for a girl in need."
Responded the pretty girl.Opal smiled,
"I'm Opal Faye, and I'm new here."
"I kind of figured, new kid. I'm Beverly, but you can call me Bev if you'd like."
"Well Bev, it's been nice meeting you, but I've got to rush off, thanks again."
Opal waved her off and waited for Beverly to bid her farewell, then she turned on her heel and walked out of the class.
She was already fully aware that she would have to walk all the way back home because her aunt was working and there was no one else to give her lift.
So she began the long walk home, which honestly she didn't mind.
Considering the sunlight was warm on her milky skin.
And the wind blew very softly, but enough to keep her cool.
The walk was quiet, but she ducked into the local library briskly.
She wanted to find out more about Derry and how it was founded; after all, it seemed like quite a delightful town, and she did like history.
Lucky thing the library was on the way to her house,
otherwise she probably would've prolonged the already mind-numbing walk. When she had made her way to her Aunt's house,
(calling it her home, felt very unfamiliar to her, so she decided to not call it her's)she discovered a note on the kitchen table, that read;
Opal,
I have to work late tonight, don't go out past curfew and sorry I couldn't be there for dinner, but there's a casserole in the fridge.
Love Aunty Vee.She sighed, she wasn't really in the mood to be alone tonight, but she guessed it would give her time to finish up her book and question booklet for her literature class.
Opal tossed her bag down on the kitchen table and warmed the casserole in the oven.
While it was reheating, she read all the way up to page 174 of 'Wuthering Heights', but she did get a to read quite a bit in the library.
As she devoured her dinner, she read more.
Then she showered and waddled, towel-clad back to her room.
She could hear "Friday I'm In Love" blasting from a stereo, in her neighbour's house.
She let the towel drop from her naked body, but of course, made sure her curtains were shut first; which they were.
Then she flicked on her lamp and danced, utterly bare to the song, all the while trying to slip on her silky soft garments.
After she was clothed, she opened up her reading window, and sat on the soft seat and continued reading her book.
This was the point where she realised, she really needed to make some friends.
To make herself feel like she was less sad than she was,
Opal slid her book away from her -only had ten pages till the girl had thoroughly read it-
and decided that she would answer the questions booklet in class,
so it didn't seem like she had spent the whole night studying.Even though, she really had.
Opal Faye slipped into bed and sunk first into her pillow and then into her subconscious where she contemplated the events of her first day.
