"Opal? Is that you?"
Veronica Lane called from the kitchen as she heard the wooden front door click shut.

"Yes, Aunty Vee."

Opal raced into the kitchen and engulfed her aunt in a big bear hug.

Her Aunt smiled and hugged her tightly, pulling Opal into the dining room, so they could sit and talk over dinner.

There lay a gorgeous green salad and pumpkin soup, as well as a fully-set table with gold encrusted cutlery; Veronica had really gone out of her way, to make this dinner special.

"So I haven't gotten to properly talk to you about school,
because I've been so busy.
But tell me sweet pea, and don't leave out a single detail."

Veronica grinned like a schoolgirl, excited to be filled in on all the details.

"Well," Opal got comfortable on the seat and shoved a mouthful of soup into her mouth before continuing.

"My favourite class is Literature, but my teacher doesn't really teach, he just kind of sits there.
And I have the sweetest teacher for Biology, and even though the class is so boring, I really like her."

She continues to ramble on,

"I got an extra credit assignment for Literature because I really want to do well.
I've already finished the essay because I went to the library after school which is why I came home late.
I'm really excited to hand it in and see what mark I get."

Opal grinned a little, she didn't notice her Aunt's smile falter a little as she thought Opal was yet to make friends.

"What about some friends dear, have you met anyone nice?"

'Well there was this really pretty girl in my Biology class, but I only talked to her once.
And there's this boy who is quite funny not to mention he showed me the way to my first period on my first day."

Veronica's smile adorned her face once again, at least Opal had met a few people.

"And what are their names?"
The older woman coaxed.

"Well I don't know the girl's name, but she had red hair and the boy is called Richie Tozier, I'm pretty sure."

In an instant, the woman's proud smile slipped off her cheeks, and a look of shock embedded itself on her pale skin.
