After looking through her mother's belongings and reliving her story, she fell asleep on the floor.

This wasn't the first time; it seemed she had a knack for getting sleepy and not being able to clamber up to her bed.

She fell asleep with tear tracks down her cheeks and a sunken stomach at the feeling of the loss.

God, she ached worse than she ever had.

While she slept to ease the pain, a heartbroken Veronica entered her room and placed a toasted sandwich and a mug of hot tea on her niece's new table.

She pulled a warm blanket over Opal and placed a loving kiss on her forehead.

Looking at the cardboard box to see that Opal had been reminiscing.

Her and Opal had different ways of coping with pain and loss.

Veronica preferred to keep her mind off it by working late nights like she was tonight.

Opal preferred to keep her mind on it by reminiscing and not forgetting old memories.

Veronica wrote a little note to Opal telling her she was working late, and telling her to stay safe and be okay.

And stating as a final message that

"Ruby loved us very dearly and she wouldn't want us to be hurt over her. She was one brave woman, and I know she loved you with every fibre of her body."

Veronica left for work,

Opal only woke when the sun was set and 'Heroes' by David Bowie, blasted from her neighbour's window.

The beautiful girl noticed the food and note on her table;

she ate crying quietly to herself after reading her Aunty Vee's note.

She was glad that her aunt was working a night shift.

Not because she didn't like her aunt, it's just tonight she didn't want to reminisce with her aunt.

She wanted someone to confide in, not someone who already knew everything and could do nothing but tell her it would be okay and that her mother only wanted the best for her.

After Opal finished her food and had washed up her dishes;

trying to get her mind off things but it didn't work.
