(Y/N)'s P.O.V.
"So, what did my mom want?" I asked, becoming serious again. I wished that Mike hadn't found out about my bike. Not only was it embarrassing to explain why I'd lied to him, but now I didn't have an excuse to get rides from him. Yes, yes, we were dating - but it still felt weird. A lot of things felt weird. It was also weird that Mike had seen me completely naked, but I was trying to ignore that. It was only an attosecond that he'd been in that room, but the whole ordeal still managed to get to me. I kept trying to convince myself that it was fine, because lots of people get walked in on like that. But this was different, and I wasn't sure why. It was almost like it was weirder because we were dating.
"She just wanted to know if you were here. I didn't tell her, of course. She seemed really angry. She asked if I knew anyone named Mike... I said no, and she left." He said.
I didn't say anything back. I was thinking. I didn't know how I was going to escape my mother. Even if I did get away from her, what would I do afterwards? What was the chance of me being able to live with Mike? I would probably get placed in some home for parentless children in another state.
"(Y/N)?" Mike asked, worriedly.
I looked up at him, allowing him to see how scared I was.
"I'm going to go to the police, and you're coming with me. They can help you. Then I'll make sure that you end up here." He said, putting his hands on my shoulders. He seemed pretty confident and calm, considering the fact that he had just seen me with zero articles of clothing on. Maybe he thought that this was too important a matter to be lingering on his own nervousness. I appreciated that. I also appreciated how he seemed so sure that I would end up here with him. He pulled me into a hug, which made me feel a little better. "Let's go. Right now. To the police station. I know where it is." He said with determination.
"But what if we see my mother out there? She's probably still looking for me." I asked.
"So what if we do? It's not like she's gonna kidnap us. Plus, we can ride our bikes faster than she can run. She's on foot. Anyways, we're not gonna see her."
I thought about it for a minute. It was reckless and risky, but fuck it.
"Okay." I said, raising myself to his level of confidence. I think he tried to smile at me, but was far too excited to fully execute the facial expression.
He ran downstairs, and I followed. Grabbing my hand, he opened the front door and pulled me outside with him.
"We should ride together, so we don't get separated or picked off one by one. Let's use my bike. If your mother comes back, she'll see that your bike is still in the same place. She wont think that you came back here." He said. Hell yeah.
I was excited. I was finally going to get away from my mother. All thanks to Mike. I would have never been able to do this without him. I was just too scared before.
His bike was laying in his yard, fairly close to where mine was actually.
"Hop on!" He said, after he had propped it up.
Doing as he said, I situated myself on the bike, wrapping my arms around his waist. I'd only done that a few times, but it felt normal.
He began to pedal off, and I struggled to keep track of the twists and turns he was making. The air was cold and the sky was gray.
