When Tris opened the door, she was highly disappointed by what she found. Christina was staring at Tris, her expression deeply troubled and Tobias wore a pure look of fury.
"Did the nurses let you out of bed?" Tobias demanded, standing and advancing on Tris. In that moment, Tobias looked as if he wasn't himself, a beast consumed by worry and anger. Had he really been that scared she would die? Tris whimpered and backed up against the now closed door, feeling for the doorknob so she could make a quick escape. Tobias's gaze soften and he lay a soft hand on Tris's shoulder.
"Sorry." He leaned in closer so Tris could smell the smell of his breath. It wasn't sour but it didn't smell sweet either. It smelled of sharp, wild mint leaves and pungent sage. She inhaled deeply and chuckled to herself. Tobias cracked a smile. She loved it when he smiled.
"Excuse me, not to ruin the movie moment or anything, but we should probably get you back." Christina said impatiently, tapping her shoes irritably, her eyes still hiding depths of worry. Tris furrowed her eyebrows as Christina spoke.
"But.. But, I just got out here!" She cried. Tris had gone down all those hallways, slipping past nurse after nurse and using all her strength to get here JUST to see her friends! She had imagined then lighting up with joy and bouncing up and down and throwing a big party due to her return. Now they were insisting she leave. Tris balled her fists and screwed up her face.
"I'm not leaving." She growled stubbornly. Christina approached her slowly and surely.
"Tris, you are very very ill. You need rest to get better." Christina said in a slow soothing voice that made Tris think of her mother. Her mother would always wake her up in the morning with soothing words spoken by a soothing voice, stroking her hair and letting Tris take her time as she emerged from her dreams. She was so deep in memory, that she only saw Christina mouth moving with no words coming out. With the world silent, Tris noticed something new about Christina. Christina looked older and more wise. Black bags hung under eyes, a sign of less sleep them usual. Had that been for her? Had Christina waited all those nights in this lobby, hoping they would release her best friend? Tris's slower lip trembled and she collapsed into a heap of sobs into Tobias's arms. It felt nice to have strong, reassuring arms around her, holding her tight as tears rolled down her face.
"Tris?" Tobias croaked. Tris felt Tobias turn his gaze to Christina. "Get a nurse." He said as Christina bolted off in search of help. Tobias lowered to floor, cradling Tris.
"I hate crying, it makes me seem weak." Tris sniffled. Tobias stroked her hair in response. Tris buried herself in crook of Tobias's shoulder. She didn't feel like herself anymore. She didn't feel like Tris anymore. What was wrong with her?{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
Tris woke up. She had been placed back into the hospital bed and long tubes pumping fluids were attached to her. She longed to tear then off and run off again but she knew it was no use. She seemed to droop as she realized she had so many more days confined to the in the small prison of a room, accompanied by the soft whoosh of the working machines. She didn't feel like crying anymore. She reached her hands up to her cheeks and found they were still damp with tears that were cried long ago. Her mouth tasted like salt and medication. Ugh, how she hated the taste of medication.
'It'll help you get better!' The doctor's always said, with fake smiles upon their faces. Tris could see through the fake smiles and see the worry. Everyone seemed worried these days as Tris sat restless and serene under the cold covers. She kicked her feet restlessly, enjoying how her toes looked under the sheets. She scoffed and shook her head.
"I must be really sick if stuff like this makes me happy ." Tris reasoned. She sat her head down on the pillow, expecting sleep. But instead, her head felt like it was being ripped apart from the inside, outA/N:
