"I'm going to put it nice and easy for you Tobias. It's her brain. We can fix it.." The doctor trailed off, all hostility from earlier forgotten. Tobias still felt slightly bad for punching him. Slightly....
"So, you can fix her? Return her to normal?" Tobias breathed, glancing down at Tris, who lay, as helpless as ever, in bed, the covers tucked under her, swaddling her. In an attempt to make her look more comfortable, they had made her look more lifeless, Tobias thought angrily.
"Tobias, I said I'd take it slow. It isn't that easy." Tobias sat up straighter, prepared to jump to Tris's aid, to give help for her well-being where it was needed.
"It could kill her. It could very much so kill her." The doctor croaked, before handing Tobias a small pile of official looking papers. There were few pages, but the importance they seemed to pose made them weigh more.
"Since her parents are... Deceased, the papers must be signed by a friend or in your case, boyfriend." The doctor cleared his throat and began to point to random points in the text, listing anything extra. Tobias wasn't listening. He was staring past the doctor, straight at Tris.
"I could save you." Tobias thought, the thought a moment of hope. Before he knew it. he had hurtled is way out of the room, sprinting down the hallways, careful not to drop the papers when he skidded into the bedroom. He grabbed a blue pen from a nearby desk and bent over and began to write.

The light outside was going out as the slipped out of the sky so the moon could dominate the sky. Christina was not back yet. Tobias stayed bent over the papers, scratching away at the paper with the blue pen, answering questions, authorizing certain parts of the surgery and signing various lines. The text was beginning to blur under his sleep ridden eyes. He felt a pat on his back and a soft whisper in his ear.
"Time for bed." He heard Christina mumble. Tobias began to shake his head but Christina shoved him out of the chair and before he could sit back down, she sat down and took up the pen.
"Bed now." She said sternly, beginning to read the pamphlets. After that, Tobias didn't protest. He just flopped down on the bed and sleep took him immediately.
The doctor quickly skimmed through the paper to check them.
"Lucky. It's so fast for you." Tobias thought ruefully, only have his strength in the bitter observation. Those papers were to save Tris. The faster the better. The doctor nodded and put the papers on his desk and smiled across the table at Tobias.
"We can get her into surgery right now. Are you okay with that?" Tobias nodded breathlessly. The doctor got up and walked towards the door. Before he exited, he put a hand on Tobias's shoulder and muttered.
"I'll keep her alive. I know how much she means to you." Then he was gone, leaving Tobias nervous and ready to see Tris again. Anything for Tris, he thought. Anything.

Tris could feel and hear the stuff going on around her. She knew she wasn't ACTUALLY awake, but something was happening in the real world. There was a scrap of wheels and the bed whooshed forward under her. Tris grew relaxed and smiled. Maybe they were fixing her. They were. She'd see Tobias again. It had been so long.
