Queen Uda's Story - Day 5

I've always been watching the way the wind blows across the meadow of ice that is our home. The way the weakest shards in the ground snap, and produce the sharp sound of something splitting into a thousand pieces. The sound never ceases, and it calls me into the darkness. I am not that weak crystal.

A castle that had an eerie look to it, even on the brightest of days. I have known nothing else, and doubt I ever will. Trapped behind these walls I have learned to see the beauty within the shadows. I look at our world. It is dull and dreary. Those species from the other planets have vibrant colors. One word comes to mind. Beautiful. We are not like them. Luxians are not butterflies, yet we soar high above them. We will follow them in the shadows. Our race is strong, for without the darkness there can exist no light.

Perhaps I am 16. Or 17, or even 20. I no longer count the orbits. Everyday I meet a spectacular throne with shining diamonds and gold. This throne is mine, and so is this palace. But I am rather lonely here, with only about a dozen people to talk to. But it is my fate. I am merely doing what I must.

Around the time of my fourteenth orbit, two people I loved departed me. Those bloody martians at the other end of the galaxy. Their names are still unknown to me. An anger coursed through me, stronger than anything I had ever felt before.

Our forces C R U S H E D them.

I made sure of it. Luxian is no longer a name to be taken lightly. I made sure of it. In the north wing of my tower, I can see the villages below. I do this everyday for them. Luxians... My everything. The people of this kingdom needed a new ruler. An adolescent Luxian girl was their only hope. Still, I would not disappoint them. They say I may just be the best Queen they've ever had. I treasure their words, but part of me wants to toss them away. I long for friends, family. Perhaps some more social interactions. I call for my maids.

"Kandi! Keila!"

"Yes, your highness?" two pink smaller Luxian women scurry in and speak simultaneously.

"Would you two care to have a picnic with me?" I inquire.

"Why thank you Queen Uda" They respond as they bow their heads respectfully.

"Yes. Go along now"

This is all just a formality kept within the castle walls. Once we leave we become the best of friends. They have been at my side since as long as I can remember. Although I do believe I am a few orbits older. I hired them as maids to keep them near me. Because although they are from noble families, it was not guaranteed they would stay in the castle.

Departing the castle, I head to our agreed meeting place. My maids will not join me for another time unit (about an hour), but there is someone else I just have to see. This is the place of my childhood. The odd looking forest on top of the valley. I have been told that the life in this spot is from a planet different from our own. But it is the world to me. The only world I knew until I met him. My light.

Sirius Ilikas. My trusted retainer. I walk up to him and he runs a gloved hand through his bright green hair. Coming from a family of guards and warriors he is whatever I need him to be. My red eyes meet his golden ones, and a brief moment passes between us. No words are exchanged but yet we can both understand. We have suffered for far too long.

Kandi and Keila arrive and we speak of our woes, and the recent news. This may well be the last time the four of us can simply spend a few hours as friends and not as members of high society. At least for a few orbits. Maybe then, we will be able to simply live.

A threat approaches. One that I had not expected. New settlers have arrived on the planet. They are taking over faster than I had predicted. We are stronger yes, but I fear they are greater in number, and it has not yet been confirmed what they are capable of. Anyone in our galaxy or the next, would know that we just won a war and are not afraid to fight back. But that is the flaw in our kingdom. We attack swiftly and precisely, with the grace of a fairy and the power of ten dragons. But we have never been invaded before.

This here is my life; my world. All the Luxians in my kingdom look to me to protect their world. They trust me with their lives and so I cannot ever let them down. It's their world in my hands, and I will do anything to protect it...
