Sadie Fansen - Day 2
I stepped out of my "house"(at least what I assumed was my house) and onto....the...dirt? It was grayish, with little specks that looked like the kind of glitter you would find at a craft store. I had just arrived on this new planet yesterday along with a whole bunch of other people my age. I guess technically a 15-year-old isn't supposed to own a house, but my parents were stationed on a different continent than I was, so I was stuck by myself.
I hadn't met anyone else who I deemed "friend material". I didn't have anytime yesterday since I was busy setting up my belongings in my house. There was this one kid on the same transportation that looked ok. I guess I could talk to her if I ever saw her again.
I looked around at the atmosphere. The planet they had set up looked....actually ok. The sky looked cleaner than the one back on Earth. The whole reason we were sent here is because Earth was pretty much inhabitable.
And it was our fault. Pollution completely destroyed our atmosphere, which worsened the global warming, which sent the world into a full on panic mode. The resolution? Send humans to the only other planet that was actually habitable. So, we packed our things and left Earth.
Which brings us to here. I was currently wearing what I normally would wear. They really hadn't specified on what to wear or what to do when we got to the planet. I rolled up my hoodie sleeves and readjusted the headphones around my neck. I turned around and looked back at my house.
I had chosen a 2-story house that was still big enough for me to inhabit, but not a gigantic place that would take up a lot of space. I closed the door behind me before shoving my hands into my pocket and strolling around. I saw other people moving pieces of furniture into their houses, people setting up their houses, and little kids running around as their frantic parents tried to set up their houses.
I wasn't paying attention until I found myself standing in front of the main government building on our continent. It was currently being swarmed with government officials running around the place with their tablets and papers, with security guards standing outside the door. I turned around and walked back toward the housing areas.
I spent the rest of the afternoon strolling the area, just looking at people's houses. When the announcement came over the speakers for dinner, I took my time walking to the building that was named in big, cursive letters, "Dining Area". People were swarming the building, trying to get into the line for food. I stood at the very back and just stood in line as the officials tried to let in everyone in an orderly fashion.
By the time I finally got my food, it was already pretty late. I sat at one of the last available seats and started to eat my food. Just then, a girl with olive-green colored eyes and blonde hair slid into the seat in front of me.
"Hey! Mind if I sit here?" she asked. I looked up. "Go ahead. There's no one sitting there," I replied bluntly. I went back to my food and continued to eat. There was an awkward silence between us. "So.......what's your name?" she asked me. "Sadie. Fansen," I said. "I like that name. I'm Felicity Hope Sanchez. Are your parents living with you?" she said. I shook my head. "They were placed on a different continent. I'm living here by myself," I said without looking at her. "Same! My parents aren't living with me. Although I'm glad my dad's not," she said. "Why?" I asked. She looked around before leaning over the table. "He raped me when I was younger. He also beats me and my mom. Basically he's abusive. I hate him a lot," she whispered in my ear.
"Oh. Well, I'm sorry he's like that to you guys," I said as I finished my food. I stood up, ready to leave. "Where do you live? Wow that sounds really stalker-ish. But seriously, maybe I can come see you!" she said. "I live down Libbyalp lane. Second house on the left," I said. "Cool! Well, nice meeting you! I'll see you around!" she said as she stood up as well and walked away. "Okay...." I whispered quietly to myself.
I strolled back to my house. The night sky was already out, with the stars twinkling brighter than they ever would back on Earth. I unlocked the front door and let myself in before shutting the door behind me and locking it.
This was gonna be one heck of a journey.
