Sirius Ilikas - Day 8

The life of a warrior is not the path for everyone.

"Mister Sirius! What's it like working for the royal family?"

"So, you must know a lot, right? Spill the secrets!"

"Why are you always so cold and distant? It scares away girls."

ugh,

Shut up.

Why are they always so anNOYing

I rolled my eyes and without saying a word, shied away from the crowd, hiding behind my long green hair. I am proud of my job; I do it well. Father was a swordsman, mother was an armor model, grandmother was a dragon tamer, and grandfather was a mage. My family is privileged as far as Luxians go. I know that. We've been within the castle walls in one of the basements, but it's a rather luxurious life. Although I do see a lot of blood and violence. I am the Queen's retainer. I do what she asks of me. And I have fought many battles for her sake.

*FLASHBACK*

I remember is when I was a youngling, I snuck into the upper floor and met the young princess. She was a few orbits younger than me. She was wearing the most ridiculous poofy dress I had ever seen, and her horns were adorned with gemstones and metals. I didn't even bother trying to contain my laughter, I mean it was hilarious.

"You look like a giant space caterpillar balancing jewels on its head. Like the ones in the circus!" She flushed and looked away.

"What a weirdo... What's your name?" she asked.

"Why do you want to know my name, thats being a stalker" I mock accused. She rolled her eyes.

"Sirius Ilikas. You know, like serious; Sirius." I joked.

"Huh? but you aren't very serious" she giggled. I looked at her thoughtfully.

"uh yeah, well you know you aren't either. And it's Sirius. Not serious."

"Hmm.. Ok. My name is-"

" -Princess Uda... duh." I cut her off . I wish I could be pampered and get to play with other younglings too. She probably has an awesome life. The only thing I get to do is train, study, and train some more. She must have read my mind, because her response changed my world.

"You should be my retainer! Then I will have another friend!" she exclaimed.

She beamed at me with her shocking red eyes. Thats um a very powerful and highly esteemed position. Does she realize what she is asking me to become? But... I can't pass this up. This would allow me to climb up the ranks even higher.

"I accept your suggestion, Lady Uda"

*FLASHBACK END*

We grew to be very close. Pranking each other, studying together. She introduced me to her two maids in training who were recruited the same way I was. What a crazy little girl. The four of us were the closest friends. But when I reached a double digit orbit, I found my name began to fit me more. I became so hungry for power and knowledge that I would often ditch my friends in order to do work. Work on anything that could make me stronger. And occasionally appreciate a good scroll series called "How to live your life fabulously."

Yes, I'm not popular. Or cool. The other younglings make fun of me now. Because I'm not normal. They should really respect me more, I'm a genius. And I definitely don't have a big ego, why would they think that?

One time I got in a fight with Kaida and Keila.
"You are too focused on your studies! Live a little. We miss our best friend. And Uda could really use your support right now, her parents have been on their mission for months."

I shrugged them off. They can wait, I thought. Until something happened. Something terrible. The ambush on the royal ship caused the death of everyone on it including the King and Queen. Her only family. Uda did not take it well. I watched as she tore herself apart trying to cope, but also to protect the kingdom that now belonged to her. It was then that I realized I had failed her. I had sworn to protect her and haven't been doing my job. I needed to make things right, and despite those around me telling me I couldn't do it, I led the front squad of dragon riders into the battle. And by some random stroke of luck, we actually succeeded. Like who would have thought I would actually win something.

"Uda I'm so amazing, we did it! We won." I gave her a goofy grin and a thumbs up.

"But at what cost?" She choked out before walking away. I frowned.

She's being so negative... She closed herself off from the world. She's still my friend though. Yes, I have grown into my name. But I will make sure you grow into yours, Uda... A name from a thousand orbits ago. It's definition is listed as successful. But you were given this name because of a hidden meaning I have read about orbits ago.

Bright...
