Instability
"Welcome."-Chapter Twelve
Lyra
As we walked in we each had a bed to lay on that resembled one of a hospital's. As we lay down and closed our eyes, something struck in my stomach and my mind telling me,
this is a very bad idea, get out while you can!
But before I could do or say anything, It was too late.
The mission was already in launch.
Everything went black and the sound of footfalls sounded in the darkness.
"Mama," A little boy began to sob, "Sissy come find me I'm lost and don't know where you are. MAMA." My mind flashed white and I could see two doors.
One white.
One black.
Ka'cean
Panting and running.
I just kept running until I was at the edge of a cliff. I took a step back and turned around to find him standing there.
"Come on son. It's time to go home now. We have to go home to mama. Come with me." My father began. I was crying. The last time I cried this hard was at there funeral.
"Dad STOP IT. You're dead. Not alive. You and mom died years ago. When I was ten. I'm twenty-four now. I've moved on." I said while pulling at the ends of my hair until it began to hurt.
His eyes continuously began to soften even more at the look of my frightened face. His voice grew tender and quiet, "Son we're right here. Just come to us we'll protect you. We love you. We always have and always will."
"You're not real. I pushed this memory out of my head and moved on. Look. Look behind you. The house is on fire. FIRE. And it's all my fault" I protested growing with anger. Not at them. But at me. Myself.
"See that's the thing Kac, you're not over it. You were just ten and trying to make mommy and daddy notice you by making yourself a birthday cake." He said while stepping closer.
"And that's why you're dead. You're dead because I was a child who wanted and needed love. Your attention. Your affection. But you guys were too stuck up in work."
He looked away for a second while tears started to swell in his eyes. Tears kept threatening to fall out of mine but I held them back.
My mom appeared from around the corner and I lost it. I couldn't hold them back anymore.
"Come here, son." They both began to plead.
I ran into there arms and sobbed, " Please-Please, Please forgive me. I'm so sorry."
They didn't hesitate to respond and said, "We forgive you," In unison.
I was sucked out of the memory into a room that read on the wall, "WAITING ROOM"
A voice rang out, "You have completed your task and trial, Acceptance. You may now wait for the others to finish. For now, you may linger in this room and may take out your electronics, snacks, or other items to pass the time."
