Chapter 2

"No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader."

I blinked, stunned, I hadn't even put my hand up. Maybe he wanted a nerd to do his homework permanently. Great. But I didn't dare to protest and stood up. I felt thousands of eyes staring at me accusingly, and I hurridly got to the door, but tripped. I heard the class snigger behind me. At least I had made them laugh. I groaned as August helped me out. His hands were freezing, and I shivered. I looked up and August was giving me one of his signature smirks. Trying to keep my dignity, I left the class, mumbling a thankyou.

The hall was empty, as all the kids had gone to their class. I pointed at each door and mumbled the name of the subject.

"Are you coming to the First Party?", August asked completely ignoring my effort. I groaned. Even he knew about the party.

If you don't know my school, the party is an event which runs three times a year, once at the beggining of the school year, another one in the winter break and the last one at the beggining of summer. Each party has a different theme. This year, the party was hosted by Meredith's parents, and the theme was a masquerade.

It was absolutely banned not to go, but it wasn't like anyone noticed I never went.

I had to admit, I had always dreamt of going to one of those parties, but I knew it wouldn't do me any good. It would just remind me of the unworthless my life was. I stuttered, thinking of an excuse.

"You're not going, aren't you?" he said, giving me one of his smirks.

"Nope," I answered, fiddling with a paper. I needed a distraction from that gorgeous face.

"Would consider going, if, by chance, I went with you?"
