Luke Hemmings & Beverly Stokes would like to formally invite you to the wedding set for July 12th, 2017. Please sign below if you are to bring a guest.
I gazed at the wedding invitation for the 5th time today; my sister's wedding was in 3 weeks and I found myself taking a 20h flight from London to Sydney just to be her maid of honor. The thought of going shopping for flowers and arrangements and bridesmaids' dresses seemed like a nightmare to me, but I couldn't help but feel excited for her. As kids, my sister Bev would always dream and tell me of her perfect wedding with her perfect Prince Charming.
Of course, having never actually met the groom, I wouldn't really know if he resembled Prince Charming or not but seeing as Bev was the pickiest person in the world, I'd guess that he was pretty perfect for her.
Getting out of the taxi, I headed for the door of my family home that I haven't passed through in 2 years and felt a sense of dread flow through me. What if I'm not as welcome as I thought I was? Being a music manager, I found myself working at all hours of the day and I rarely had time to go on a date, let alone fly to Australia a few times a year just to see my family. My parents kept a tight ship around the house and made sure we were all close, but how close can you really be when you're thousands of miles away running after dumb boybands and screaming at them during soundcheck?
The door opened approximately 1 second after my knock, my mum giving a yelp and pulling me into a hug. which I returned with a smile.
'Val! We're so glad you came!', my dad exclaimed, giving me a hug so tight I thought my lungs would collapse. I missed this; despite loving my job I wonder how different my life would be if I had never moved fom Sydney. Would I be happier? Would I have settled down with a nice guy like my sister?
Screeching ripped me from my existential crisis. I ran into Bev's arms with a laugh, noticing how she hasn't changed at all since we last saw each other. My dad pulled my suitcase into the living room and I found myself being bombarded with questions by my family;
'How's work?'
'Have you got anyone special in your life right now?'
'When will you come visit again?'Feeling uncomfortable as hell, I was saved by the stairs creaking as someone walked down into the room. I looked up, meeting blue eyes and a big smile as I stared.
'Hey, I don't believe we've met before. I'm Luke, the groom.'
--------------------------------------------So that was the first short chapter done! I imagined Val as Nina Dobrev but obviously if you don't like that you can imagine someone else!
Please leave votes and comments below; it makes me happy 😘
