Advent #1

This past Sunday marked the beginning of my favorite Liturgical season: Advent. (I know, I have a favorite Liturgical season! Don't harass me please!) I love this season mainly because it is full of the warm and somewhat stressful feeling that it's almost Christmas. It is a nice time to prepare your heart for the holiday and remember it's true meaning: to celebrate the birth of our savior, Jesus. I know full well it is not just a sparkly red and green Santa and flying reindeer and cute elves and Will Ferrell and a million versions of the same song on the radio over and over again piece of propaganda to promote consumerism.
However, the church usually makes it their goal to not allow you to celebrate Christmas too early and to vehemently separate Advent from Christmas. I understand that, but usually it is kept at church. Lately though my dad has adopted the priestly practice of "It's not Christmas yet, it's Advent! And it's Advent until Christmas Eve and then begins the Christmas season! No! Don't have your party before Christmas! Then it has to be an Advent party..." and so on.
This past Sunday's plans were pretty hilarious though.

Me: Hey Mom, what's the plan for after mass?

Mom: We're going to decorate.

Me: Yay! Are we putting up the Christmas tree?

Mom: No, but we are putting up the Advent calendar, the Advent wreath, and the Jesse Tree.

Me: Oh.

Happy Advent, y'all.
