Agnes awoke coughing and gasping for breath. She could still feel the cold, thick and wet quicksand surrounding her body. Shuddering at the memory of being swallowed whole into it's depths. The quicksand was alive a merciless predator that after toying with it's prey slowly devours it savoring every morsel.Shaking her head she tried to clear the images flashing through her minds eye. Taking a deep breath she slowly opened her eyes dreading what she'd find. As she inspected the room she was in she lifted her hand sluggishly shielding her eyes from the light filtering into the room from the window.
Wait a minute sunlight? A window? She quickly sat upright her hands making contact with a familiar blanket draped across the bed in her room on Sunnyvale Court.
" Home" she whispered "I'm back home but how...." Looking down at herself she saw she was dressed in her favorite house coat and robe.
"What about the beach, that horrible girl, the quicksand was it a nightmare" she asked herself a relieved smile starting to form on her lips.
She got up from the bed and walked towards the bedroom door. Her first order of business was finding Marie. She would find her daughter and hold her in her arms. The horrible nightmare she had awakened from giving her task a sense of urgency. The house was completely quiet although that didn't mean no one was home. Stopping in her tracks she wondered if she would run into Sang as well. At the thought of the worthless girl her once happy mood soured.
With that thought another name and face swam through her mind. "Greta" she snarled the vision in her dream coming back full force. Rage and envy erasing all thoughts of finding Marie.
"Were you real Greta?" she asked "After all of these years did you finally decide you could take me?" her voice starting to fill with contempt and mockery. "What did you think you would accomplish." She continued filling the empty room with her rant.
"Trying to convince me I was dead!" she said her voice growing louder "The only one rotting in the ground is you dead bitch!" she crowed an ugly twisted smile on her face.
"You said you've been visiting for years. That you were forced to stand by and watch me handle San.." Agnes stopped midsentence as ideas started to form.
"You don't like the way I discipline that little slut you dumped on me?" she asked a cheerful lilt to her voice that contrasted with the dark ideas forming in her mind.
"Well your really not gonna like what I have planned for her when I find her." and with her final words turned around heading for the kitchen.Upon reaching the threshold she caught sight of long blonde hair. There sitting on the stool on the other side of the island her back turned sat Sang. Although she did not acknowledge Agnes's presence verbally her body language did in the way she sat shoulders stooped her head bent down in submission.
"Sang!" she called and watched in perverse pleasure as Sang jumped at the sound of her voice. " Come here now" she continued snapping her fingers. She stood at the entrance waiting to be obeyed but to her surprise Sang didn't move.
" Sang!" she snapped stalking toward the stool. When she got within touching distance her hand lifted to wrap the hair cascading down Sang's back in her a merciless grip. The person on the stool stood abruptly and began to turn.
"Sang didn't you hear.." was all Agnes got out of her mouth before she felt a well placed fist to her mouth. The punch thrown with such force behind it that she crashed to the floor.
Placing a shaking hand over her mouth in shock she lifted her head. There standing over her both hands curled into fist fury in her eyes was Greta.
Agnes sat on the floor hand still over her mouth in shock. Her eyes now wide as saucers and her head shaking in disbelief. "You can't be here" she said in horror "It's impossible for you to be here" she continued crawling backwards away from Greta not stopping until she had backed herself into a corner touching the wall.
